try an sd card from another source. the format function of the camera should be used to prepare the sd card for the camera before you take pics with it. this may be a format issue with nintendo. format will erase all images on card, so save them first somewhere else.
It may mean the card is corrupted and will have to be replaced. It's also possible that you may be able to fix it by formatting it.
You can format the card either through the camera menu or by simultaneously pressing the little trash can icon button at the top left on the back of the camera and the metering button on the top right next to the off/on switch.
Both are marked with red and show "format" in tiny letters. Press both buttons for 2 seconds. A flashing "FOR" will appear in the display. When it stops flashing, the card is formatted.
If there's a problem with the card, there may be some sort of error indication. If the card can't be formatted, it is corrupt and needs to be replaced.
If you have pictures on the card, they will be lost when you format it.
You might want to try to download any pictures from the card to your computer before you format it, but if the card is corrupt you may not be able to do that.

If this doesn't work then it is faulty. www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/dpr.htm www.CardRecovery.com

Have your new memory card inserted into your PC to test for any virus. Format the memory car.
Please check if your cannon is adaptive to the 4GB (check the instruction manual) if the card shows the same fault now after inserting.
Use another card into the camera to confirm if the card slot is faulty.
Nikon approved CompactFlash memory cards up to 256MB in size for the 5700. The 5700 may be able to handle cards as large as 1GB, but I haven't tested this personally. When this camera was introduced in 2002, 256MB was a really big card. Many older cameras can't handle the 2GB, 4GB and larger cards we're seeing today.
Here is the link to the user manual if you need it;

First thing to try is cleaning the electrical contacts on the card, gently with a soft dry cotton cloth.
Check page 138 of the manual for instructions to reset to factory default settings - also worth trying.
Have you tried formatting the card on a PC instead of the camera?
What type of card are you using? The camera is compatible directly with CF cards and Microdrives, and with an adaptor can use SD and MMC cards. Possible problems are generally different for each type of card.
That said, if the card will not format on a pc, then unless it is somehow password protected or write protected (depends on card type), the fault must lie with the card. Only way to be absolutely sure is to try a new card in the camera, if that also doesn't format then there is a more serious problem.
From what you have described so far, it sounds as if you have a CF card, and it is faulty - these cards do have a tendency to do this.
Please post back with some more details so I can be more certain.
Hope this helps :)
I think you are correct, but don't know what to do about that.
