Camera won't format media

Check page 138 of the manual for instructions to reset to factory default settings - also worth trying. Have you tried formatting the card on a PC instead of the camera? What type of card are you using? The camera is compatible directly with CF cards and Microdrives, and with an adaptor can use SD and MMC cards. Possible problems are generally different for each type of card. That said, if the card will not format on a pc, then unless it is somehow password protected or write protected (depends on card type), the fault must lie with the card. Only way to be absolutely sure is to try a new card in the camera, if that also doesn't format then there is a more serious problem. From what you have described so far, it sounds as if you have a CF card, and it is faulty - these cards do have a tendency to do this.
