Hi if you had not chosen any fader effect then problem is with internal circuit. the blanking lines are visible kindly first chek with fadder effect in setting if it is normal then you need technical expert to physically chek the circuit.
thanks

Perhaps you check the settings. If the camera is on nightshot, or manual, with a long shutter time or wilde open diafragma your pictures are all overblown, or stripes come from lights. Put the camera in automatic. The main dial on the green camera logo, and try again. If this does not work, Please let me know how the settings are on your camera. Success
When you say 'played back', do you mean viewed on the camera screen, or after downloading to your computer ? If the latter, it could be to do with the software you are using - try FastStone.
Showing pictures with litte stripes is a normal condition. "Much whitter than usual" needs to change the settings. Did you control the posing tool?

May be posing is above 0.
Also what is ISO number. Change it to Auto or below 400.
After these controls give me some more information.
I had this problem too, I think it's the shutter problem, it doesn't close when a picture is taken, therefore, causing the over exposed photo...I've sent it back to canon, still waiting for the reply...
shutter is sticking so it over exposes photos . will need shutter or lens assembly replaced. it will have banding stripes in low light and white in bright light.
I'm not an expert, but I have determined that the vertical bars that are often red, sometimes blue ... and sometimes both ... are related to a bad control board. I've also read that a common fix is to buy a repair kit with includes the ysus, zsus and control boards ... all replaced together. My experience was that after a month or two with the 1.5" wide stripes, that you eventually loose the entire picture and have sound only. MIne comes back, but won't stay working for very long and the stripes are always there (buy used to fade and flicker sometimes). I'm planning on replacing the control board.
