Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I had the same problem. Apparently, Canon released a "bad batch" of
these ink cartridges which causes the error message. It has something
to do with the chip on the front of the cartridges.
Contact Canon and encourage them to remove these chips from future cartridges... and stop the price gouging of their customers.

Canon Technical Support team will be able to help here. This seem a common problem with the printer firmware.

Im having the same trouble. My printer was working perfectly fine, no problems what so ever. I printed approx 10 pictures then all of a sudden on the printer U071 popped up reading more then one ink tank of the follow color is installed and it shows the blue one. However I only have one blue on installed and nothing changed prior to this error report, I had just printed pictures. Ink wells are all full and Ive been stumped ever since. Nothing else will work either; cant photo copy or scan this report keeps coming up. When I take out the blue, since system shows more then one blue, an error report pops up that there isnt any blue. Its driving me crazy! Please help!!
I have same problem original ink tanks a full have reset, reinput and still same error and it is on the magneta color
Yes, I have the same problem. My screen says that I have two blacks installed in the same place and the alarm light is on. I just tried taking out the cartridges and reinserting them and of course turning off the printer and computer and turning them back on.
Me four. I hate this thing. Did anyone figure out an answer? Thanks!
Me five. It tells me I have two black cartridges (duh) and won't print and when I remove PGI-5BK it tells me it doesn't recognize the cartridge in the empty space that PGI-5BK occupied (and won't print).
