SOURCE: 2001 Volvo s60 D5 very difficult to shift gear

if you have a hydraulically assisted clutch, check the reservoir. it's located on the firewall in the vicinity of the brake vacuum booster. if it's low/empty, fill it. you may have air in the system which will require bleeding. what is the mileage? you may be due for a clutch. if you google, "hard shifting manual trans" you will gain more insight on the matter.

SOURCE: E40d trans will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, only rev. 1+2

check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine

Alot of people have the same problem, including me. Changing the transmission fluid is not going to help this problem. THe transmission filter is not something you change as much as you clean and reinstall, its just a metal screen. Call Kia and ask for an "OVERDRIVE SHIFT SOLENOID" they will need the last 8 digits of your VIN, vehicle identification number, to locate your part. I am in the process of changing mine. The part number should be something like 46313-39051. That number is for a 2001 Kia Optima, with the 4 cylinder. There are three shift solenoids bolted to the bottom of your transmission should. I'll let you know what the difficulty level when I am finished.

Most likely an electrical issue. If driving so long in third didn't blow it. Most common issue I have came across are shift solenoids. Did any codes/ lights come on the dash? Shop time for replacement is around 7- 7.5 hours. Not easy to get to. And worth changing all at once, assuming that's the issue. Did the car shift into neutral after third and then drop back to third?

Trail blazer gear shift button

Could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to turn the key lock to the unlock position, move the shifter out of park, then start the engine in neutral.
The shifter and the shift lock solenoid would need to be inspected.

yeah, it does sound like dirty fluid or even that solenoid, which is usually the shifting culprit, you might want to stay away from changing that valve tho, it is very involved, and the valve body has to come off, which there are two bearings which govern the direction of fluid flow, so stay away from that, just do what you can do which is the filter and the solenoid. you'll be fine.

1992 volvo 960 there are 3 buttons next to shifter W,S,E What are they for?

The three buttons are "W" - Winter is where it shifts straight into third gear so that you do not spin your tires in water or snow. "S" - Sport is for higher speeds such as passing, bad on mpg; and "E" - Economy is for daily driving. You can go into any of them on the fly, it's not like shifting into four wheeled drive.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answert).
