The other night, the picture finally quit. There is sound but no picture. Replaced fuse F301. Still no picture. When the TV is tapped...either by the FBT or on a heat sink, get an intermittent white line across the screen for a fraction of a second. Resoldered FBT. Any ideas?

A white like across the screen means that the vertical circuit has stopped working. Look for a small fuse that looks like a resistor near the vertical output IC, replace that fuse if open and resolder the pins on the vertical output IC.

The back light and the screen has stopped working and needs to be replaced and the power supply is no longer working and also needs to be replaced as well.
Check the lamp.
Pull it out and look at it.
More than likely the lamp has shattered inside the set and needs replaced.
Bulb replacement is made for consumers and can easily be replaced.

The board that might need replacing is the T-con board but before replacing it, I would suggest to measure the voltage at F301 on the T-con board.

I would Google the model number carefully for "problems" "no sound" and usually this set will display some kind of error code===it may even have a hard reset to try===service manuals are available on the net/web to allow you to see how the sound circuit is set up etc.
is hv circuit problem a power transistor to 25KV transformer maybe dead, check the HV Circuit, or 1XXV output from Mains transformer the fuse maybe dead
I think you have a vertical problem. Turn up screen voltage to see if there is a tin horizontal line across screen. If so replace vertical output IC and the 100uf/35v capacitor in the vertical circuit.

This has happened to me quite frequently. I have replaced the fuse at least 8 times. You just take off the back of the t.v. and on the bottom you will see a small glass fuse. just pop it out and go to radio shack and get a pack of replacements. about 4 for 3 dollars.
