Hi In this configration you will not get surround sound. Because tv is not able to reproduse the surround sound through its out put from the HDMI input. You have to connect the HDMI of PS3 to the Onkyo receiver and the HDMI Monitor Out of the Onkyo to the TV. This can only done if the Onkyo AVR Have HDMI IN/OUT option.
If not the connect the Optical out of PS3 to any one of the optical input of the Onkyo receiver. After that you have to goto the setup Menu the Onkyo and assing the optical input in wich you have conncted the PS3.
Aslo the following setting in PS3
Menu>>> Settings >>> Sound Settings >>> Audio Output Settings >>> Select the connector..= DIGITAL OUTPUT (OPTICAL) Ajin
hi, ur ps3's HDMI out is a full hd video (1080p). if u r tv does not support full hd this problem can occur. do one thing. connect the ps3 to any full hd tv and go to its video setup, then down scale its video resolution to 1080i. after that connect the ps3 to ur tv. u will surely get video. ok
Ok you should get picture and sound with normal a/v cables. Correct? If so you need to go under settings and switch audio video to hdmi. Another way is if you didnt hold the power button down long enough hold the power button down until you hear it beep twice release and it should pop up menus. Let me know if this doesnt help it could be begining signs of ylod but doesnt sound like it.
I think maybe the following steps might help you out :
Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it and then about 5 seconds later it will beep again. Let go of the power button when you hear this second beep.
Step 3. Wait for your PS3 to start.
This solution basically resets the video output back to standard definition.
ok to reset the video and audio port back to the av port for a normal tv when the ps3 is off hould down the on button unit it beeps 2x fast then it will got back to original setting
if u put in hdmi it will take over the av port so u have to chanage it back to it via ps3 settings or the reset option
I had the same problem and i tried what you tried and no result. Came to find out it was my tv. Depending on your tv you have to programe it just like you had to program your ps3. And if that doesnt work its your monster cord. Ask some one at best buy to help their pretty good.
Since you are running the to LCD monitor instead of a LCD TV this is where you run into the issue. because the monitor is not setup to pull out the audio from the HDMI connection. So there is a few ways that you maybe able to to this.
The first one is look around at the different output cables out there the PS3. (I just got one so I do not know the accessories that are out for the PS3) This is becoming a common setup so if Sony does not have cable that will split off the audio then a 3rd party group may. I know they have one like that for the XBOX 360.
Another you can try is if your monitor will except an analog connection you may need to go that way. That is how I have my XBOX 360 that is my room connected. I have a RBG HD to VGA connect the VGA input on the monitor and the audio going to my sound card.
The reason why I suggested going analog is that right with our curent technology that if you are run with the 2 formats at the same time you will get audio/video sync issues. So you need to go all analog or all digital.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions on this and/or need me to clarify anything.
For real try this:
Turn off the tv as well as the ps3 (to where the red ps3 light is on);
Then just hold down the power button in the front for like 15 seconds or so, at least until you hear a beep.
Then turn the Tv back on, and hopefully once you get the tv back on the correct hdmi input, you'll see that little message offering you to switch to optimum settings.
Hope it works. Did for me.
all sorted now, thanks so much :)
