Question about Kenmore 83142 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

No power??? Yesterday no power in the dryer. The breaker is fine and yes, the dryer is plugged in. Today, the light was on in the dryer, loaded laundry into the dryer, then nothing. No power, no light. Possibly a short somewhere, or a fuse in the dryer. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try the thermal fuse. Its a white part with 2 wires on top and it is on the blower housing. Some are oval shapped and some are a narrow rectangle. Unplug the dryer and remove one wire and check for continuity with a ohm meter. On electric dryers if this part is blown the dryer will not run. On gas modeld it will run but no heat.

It is possible the cord/pigtail connections were not tightened enough and have burnt off.

Maytag 3000 Series front load gas dryer (Whirlpool) - No lights, no digital display, not able to turn on or start. Yes, unit is plugged in to AC outlet. Yes, AC voltage is good at 120V. Yes, circuit...

OK everyone, my ears are red. Over the weekend, I gave this another shot, since my warranty repair appointment isn't until next week.

I opened the dryer door (the drum light is off, indicating no power at all) and went to the circuit breaker box, and flipped the washer/dryer breaker back to off and then re-set the breaker again.

When I got to the laundry room - the drum light was on!

So I powered up the unit, and ran the machine. It ran for about one minute, and then went off. So I went back and re-set the breaker again.

Visually, the breakers did NOT LOOK tripped - but flipping the thing off and then on to re-set the breaker worked.

This time, the dryer is working fine. The bad part is: I need to replace the breaker for the second time. So this is NOT a defective dryer, it is a bad electrical supply. I will call the electrician back to make him fix this right. . . . .

Thanks again for all who responded. This is a new unit, purchased on 7/7/2009.

LER4634E WHIRLPOOL FRONTLOAD ELECTRIC DRYER WORKED GREAT

If you have a access to an AC voltmeter, measure the two slanted connections in the wall socket for ~220 volts. If near zero, measure at the load side of the dual breakers for the same voltage. If still at or near zero, one of the breakers has gone south. Replace the pair of breakers.
If you measured 220 volts as above, then the problem is within the dryer--probably a burned out heating element or open thermal fuse. Major tear-down to find and fix as the heating element is behind the drum.
