Ice maker flap stay open

I have a GE Profile fridge.  When I dispense ice out of the icemaker the flap stays open and all the ice in the fridge proceeds to melt a bit. Water is working fine. I tried cleaning the flap as best as one can. How do I open the unit up? And how do I get the flapper to stay shut.

The solenoid is bad, next time send the full model number it says it's a ge so this should help you out,for now you can get a ball of paper towels and stick it into the shout where the ice comes out to stop the warm air from getting into your freezer

SOURCE: GE Icemaker flap door won't open causes ice jam in chute

There is an electric solenoid that opens the door. If you look up inside the dispenser you can see the solenoid. Either the solenoid is bad or the dispenser module that puts power to it is out. You will need to remove dispenser front and check for voltage to solenoid. If you have power from module, replace solenoid, if no power, replace both parts. It is common for solenoid to short out and damage the module so that both must be replaced. If solenoid is shorted and you replace module, new part will fry.

SOURCE: GE Profile side by side fridge - water dispenser doesn't work

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

Check to see if there is any obstruction (object of any kind) in the ice cube mold area. If nothing found, you will have to replace the icemaker, as individual repair parts are not available.

Ice door flap will not close

I had a similar problem once. i opened the door and used a hair dryer blowing into the dispensing area of the door. There was a ice build up that was not visible with a quick look. It takes a while so be patient when thawing and be sure not to use too high of setting so you dont deform any of the plastic parts.

Your inlet tube that goes to the icemaker may be frozen. To Check: Shut off water supply to Fridge, disconnect the water line that goes to the icemaker at top back. Use a flexible item to insert in the water line connection. I used a zip tie. If the flexible item won't all the through to the ice maker, the line is frozen. Thaw out the tube from inside the freezer with a hair dryer. Re-connect everything, you now have ice . . . Solution #2: You may have to replace your "Water Inlet Valve" located at bottom right rear of Fridge. Easy to do, just follow the color codes, be sure and shut off the water.
