Iriver music manager is not recognizing the iRiver player when connected. The Music Manager is dislplaying "Not connected" though the plyaer is accessible as a Removable Drive
OK, this problem was driving me almost to tears with frustration but have managed to bodge-solve it so hope this helps!
Right click My computer and select Properties.
Click on Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager.
Hopefully there is a yellow question mark symbol against Iriver T30 listed under other devices or portable devices or something.
Right click this then select Update Driver.
Tell it that you are going to manually update the driver yourself.
Eventually you will have to select what type of device it is - select portable device.
Now click on MTP device and click next to install the driver.
Hopefully now it is recognised by XP in My Computer....
Good luck

First make sure you have the right drivers installed, you're hearing the "new device connected" sound when you plug it in, it's listed as recognized under device manager, and the only problem seems to be that iriver music manager isn't recognizing it.
If everything is working except for the music manager, then try holding down the "fast-forward" button at the same time that you connect the cable to the iriver. You probably want to keep iriver music manager loaded, to see if it's recognizing the player while you test this; try attaching/detaching the device several times, while you're holding down fast-forward and while you aren't, to see if that's enough to fix your problem.
I have no idea why it works when it does, it's an ugly kludge, but it seemed to fix the problem for me, and saved me from having to buy an entirely new flash mp3 player to replace this ancient one.
Next time when you connect your IFP-795 and your computer recognizes the new hardware, let the Wizard install it (even though you have already done this previously). You should not need the install disc anymore as the necessary files were previously installed on your hard drive. This worked for me, hope it does for you as well.
This sometimes works, but not always. I've had this problem since the beginning when using this device on a Win 95 machine. Since then, I've migrated to two different Win XP laptops, and neither one can consistently connect Music Manager to the device. Pathetic. I'll try the fast-forward button advice.

I have the same problem. I have tried just zbout every combination of connecting the IFP-795 and starting the Music Manager software. I even deleted the MM software and downloaded a fresh copy from the iRiver website. The firmware is version 1.24, and I have the latest firmware update ready if I can ever get the MM software to recognize the darn thing is connected to the computer. BTW, the player does show up in the computer's Device Manager.
