You have to go into your BIOS and select booting from Disk not hard drive when i say disk i mean either the cdrom or dvd disk players attached to your motherboard. also you can get a boot disk to try that at the link below.
Best thing to do is,try to get a Windows 98 cd from a friend who has some computer skills and ask them to temporarily put in a cdrom drive in order to begin the process of repair. You will also need them to hook up a floppy drive in your computer,as you will need the floppy disk, containing the files to load the cdrom drivers and setup files to do the repairs to your windows 98 operating system....if not,you may need to upgrade to windows xp or Vista.Good luck:)
auto play may not be enabled on your computer go to my computer and right click on the drive and click on properties click on the autoplay tab and make your choice mine is set to prompt me each time to choose an action and it works fine
Have you tried booting the system with the restore disk, well it should reformat the system before it installs a fresh copy of windows 98 so you should back-up data before proceeding and check the boot sequence in your bios, set the first boot device to CD/DVD.
if the windows xp isn't an upgrade from 98 then it will install on your computer over the 98 without problem, bearing in mind that all information on the disk will be lost once you format it with the disk, but if it's an upgrade disk you might have to check with your friends to see if they have the same version of 98, the other thing if the computer came with 98 installed the product key should be on the case on the back or the side is normal postioning for this altho some techs use to put in the inside of the case.
hope this helps.
Plug one end into the computer, the other into the Mix Stick and you're set. Then you can just leave the cable plugged in when you disconnect the player.
