I can do all functions except navigate to a waypoint.
When I click on "Goto" at the bottom of the Find:Waypoint screen the compass comes up for a second then the screen goes blank with a thin vertical line on the right hand side of the screen, approx 1/4" from right edge.
Sometimes an additional vertical line comes up 1/2" from the left side. The rest of the screen is blank.
I've only used the unit a few times, though it is a few years old. Probably no warrantee left.
I've used the navigation screen before to find waypoints, this problem came up the first time I used it today.
To the best of my knowledge the GPS has never been damaged, gotten wet or been close to a magnetic device. I got the unit new.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with a Garmin Etrex Legend. But yesterday, I turned it on outside so it could hit the satelites, and it worked fine. I'm going to try updating the software from Garmin.

Switch it on, hit the reset button and then go to settings, hit the 'factory settings' button. You will probably loose any routes you had on the device but at least it should work again.

to create a proximity alarm for one of your waypoints is a very simple process. First you will want to create a waypoint for you destination. Be sure to name the waypoint something that will remind you of the destination. After this is done go to your main menu by pressing the "menu" button 2 times. Navigate to the "proximity" icon select it by pressing "enter" it will now allow you to create a proximity alarm select the open space and press "enter" it will now give you a list of items you can use select "waypoint" using "enter" and pick the waypoint you created earlier. now all you will have do is select a radius for thee alarm. You can also use the other items to create your proximity alarm such as cites addresses and any other navigation category.
I am assuming this is a Quest or Quest2 GPS. Using the map screen use the larger 4way "navigation" button on the front panel and cursor the screen pointer to the location you would like to save. You may need to zoom in on the location. At the bottom of the screen you will see the "lat/long" displayed. The further you "zoom in" the more precise you can get with the "lat/long". Once you have the pointer at your desired coordinates, hit the "OK" button. This will bring up an address or some other feature name. If there are multiple choices, simply pick the one that is most appropriate and again his "OK". At the bottom of the screen you will see 3 "buttons" (save, find near, and route to). Select "save". Now you will see a screen with several windows that contain the lat/long data, perhaps an address, a map icon, and the name you selected in the earlier screen. You can again use the large 4 way "navigation" button on the front panel to switch between the displayed fields. This will allow you to select a map icon such as a house, store, marina, or whatever. You can then use the "nav" button to select the lat/long window and make any final adjustments to the lat/long data. You can also move the cursor up to the waypoint name box and change it to whatever you prefer. Once you have all of the data fields to your preference on this page, you can use the "nav" button to cursor down to "OK" at eh bottom of the screen and then hit the "OK" button on the front panel. The waypoint should be stored with the correct data in the GPS.
Find page > Waypoints Scroll down to the waypoint you want to delete Press ENTER and the waypoint details will come up Move your toggle to the left to highlight the DELETE tab at the bottom of your screen Press ENTER, screen popup asking "Do you really want to delete waypoint x? Highlight YES and press ENTER.
Press and hold the GOTO button for 2 seconds. A "Mark" screen will appear. If you are saving your current location, highlight the "Save" at bottom of screen and press enter. This will save you current location. You can edit the name of the waypoint at this screen also. You can do this before you save the waypoint or you can go to Menu/Database/User/Waypoint (the one you want to edit)/Enter. At this screen you can edit the name by pressing the arrow up or down to get to the name field and press "enter" to get to the alphabet screen. If you are entering a waypoint using coordinates, do the above but edit the coordinates to the ones you want to use and then save.
To edit an existing waypoint:Or MOB
1. From the Home screen, select Information > User Data > Waypoints.
2. Select the waypoint you want to edit.
3. Select Edit Waypoint.
4. Select the waypoint attribute you want to change (Name, Symbol, Depth, Water Temp,
Comment, or Position).
To delete a waypoint or an MOB:
1. From the Navigation chart, use the map pointer ( ) to highlight the waypoint or the MOB
on the Navigation chart.
OR
From the Home screen, select Information > User Data > Waypoints.
2. Select the waypoint or the MOB you want to delete.
3. Select Review > Delete (The Review button is only shown when more than one waypoint
is in the vicinity.)
I had the same problem. What you need to do is clear the waypoint locations from the system. To do this hit the "nav" button, get to destination menu and locate the waypoint icon and touch. Delete all waypoint locations shows up at the bottom. Touch button, which will delete all waypoint locations and it will work again. Just to be safe, I cleared all of my stored locations including previous destinations
You can't turn the navigation back on with this method. You must once again highlight the waypoint you want to navigate to in your Fine>Waypoints screen and then press the "Go to" highlighted button on the screen.
