I NEED RESTAURATION SOFTWARE
I have the 30gb version. what is it doing or not doing?
Toshiba never updated anything with the S series so don't bother.
You can put it in firmware restore mode by holding the Windows button and left on the directional pad during power up. You might have to flip the battery switch first. THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DRIVE! I would only do this if it was completely unresponsive and dead anyway.
If you can't risk losing your data, you might be able to still get to the drive in Windows Explorer. If not, you can get a 1.8" ZIF drive enclosure and bypass the gigabeat entirely and end up with a tiny 60 gig external drive.
Also, rockbox is on the verge of being able to work on them. It can be loaded on them but the process is still a little too hardcore for me at its current state. rockbox.com is where I found the restore instructions.
I have the same problem, it's telling me to restore the portable media center. I called Toshiba, there is no firmware! The technician said the the firmware is built into Windows Media Center. And they can fix it for $240. Just terrible! Does ANYONE have any suggestions??
