MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CELL(S) ARE CLEAN ... CLOSELY INSPECT TO SEE THAT THERE ARE NO BROKEN IONIZING WIRES (THE SMAAL STAINLESS-STEEL WIRES THAT ARE BETWEEN THE COLLECTOR PLATES). MAKE SURE POWER GOING INTO UNIT TO IS "OFF"!!! ... NOT JUST THE SWITCH ON THE UNIT. THEN TRY THE FOLLOWING: THIS AIR-CLEANER THAS A AIR-FLOW SENSOR THAT SOMETIMES GETS CLOGGED ... IT IS INSIDE THE TOP CONTROL PANEL. THERE SHOULD BE A DIAGRAM UNDER THE CONTROL BOX COVER PLATE TO ASSIST YOU LOCATING THAT SENSOR. MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN. THE HIGH-VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER BEING BAD USEUALLY WILL SMELL LIKE BURNT WIRING. AND WILL LOOK BURNT. MAKE SURE YOU SEE NO LOSE WIRES ... SOME TIMES THE SPARK-PLUG LOOKING WIRE GOING TO THE CELL(S) CAN BURN OFF ITS CONNECTOR. YOU CAN CHECK THE DOOR SAFETY SWITCH TO MAKE SURE IT IS MAKING CONTACT WHEN HANDLE IS PROPERLY CLOSED. GOOD LUCK ... HOPE YOU HERE THAT ZAPPING SOON ... BY THE WAY ... IF YOU GET A POWER LIT ON ... GIVE THE RETURN-AIR DUCT A SLIGHT BANG ... IF IT IS WORHING IT SHOULD SNAP CRACKLE AND POP FOR A FEW SECONDS. MAKE SURE YOU SEE NOTHING (HAIR?) LYING ACROSS THE PLATES OR IOMIZING WIRES ON EACH CELL IF YOURS HAS TWO. ELECTRIC AIR CLEANERS ARE ONLY GOOD WHEN THEY ARE KEPT CLEAN ... PET HAIR IS A CONSTANT MAITENCE PROBLEM AND CELLS SHOULD BE LEANED EVERY TWO WEEKS. FOR BEST PERFOMANCE. did you ever solve this issue? I just borrowed my mom's and it worked fine for two days and then suddenly won't turn on at all. I wonder if there is a fuse that might have blown during a power surge while we were out of town or something...
Any help would be appreciated.

I am 99.9% sure that you are simply looking at this year vs. last year models. There are absoutly no significant changes. I will verify on Mondayas I know the engineer at Honeywell that works on this particular product!
SOURCE: my honeywell air purifier is emmiting an awful
Mine quit too... The led screen went blank so I changed the battery. Now it does nothing. I totally disassembled it as the fan was turning stiffly.(should spin very easilly) The grease in the end bearing was stiff. I washed the gummy grease off the shaft and reoiled with synthetic oil. Your smell is probably motor windings overheating. I disassembled the electronic control and was disgusted to see that there is a glass fuse soldered to the circuit board. I believe the only reason for this fuse is to cause us consumers to needlessly replace otherwise good equipment. (It cost more to pay a repairman to replace the hidden fuse than to purchase a new unit)The fuse is not blown. At least this fuse actually looks lide a fuse unlife the stealth fuses most electronics have hidden in them. I can not obtain a wireing diagram on my 17005 unit but it has a black box inside behind the control panel. It looks like a small start capacitor, but it has a temp rating on it of 70*C. I suspicion it is a single use over heat safety which triggered when my motor got hot due to stiff bearings. I refuse to play their game and purchase a new air cleaner. I love this one... So, if I can not determine what that little black box is, I am going to bypass all the crappy electronics and just drill a hole on top by the handle and install a hi/lo/off manual switch directly to the motors wire hasness. This machine will never give me problems ever again, and if I oil the motor every couple of years with synthetic (Ander oil) this unit WILL last me for the rest of my life...
