Hi there. i have a rather old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop. it's been in storage for about a year, and now i'm trying to get back into it. upon startup, it simply freezes. it even freezes in safe mode. i think some old programs are trying to start themselves up, but i think too many try to start up at once, and they all just freeze each other out. don't know what to do, can't junk this thing until i get some files.
Hi there You can try this steps Start-Run-MSCONFIG and click on STARTUP and click on disable all.Make sure to check the option which is related to Anti-Virus. Also you can try by running disk cleanup(cleanmgr). Also you can run disk defragmentation. This will make the computer better. But if you still want to make it faster, you can modify the registry settings with your own risk.Start-Run-regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Control Set\Current Control Set\Waittokillservice,by modifying the value will make the computer better.
