Question about LaCie (300978) DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

1 Answer

LaCie DVD RW won't open

I think the model is 300785. It worked for about a year and has suddenly stop responding. The blue light turns on when it is powered but the eject button won't open the tray. There are also no icons appearing on the desktop. I use it with my PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.3.9

I have a JWIN VD519 DVD player that has worked fine till this evening. The remote suddenly stopped responding even after changing for new AAA duracell batteries. Nothing has been spilt on the remote...

Hello

you can test your remote with a mobilephone camera like this:

open camera on the phone an hold the remote front against the camera

(approx 10cm from it) press a button and look in the display on the phone.

if the controller works you should se a blue light in the display coming from the remote front.

if no light: try other batteries again note the battery polarity. no light= controller broken.

if there is light= the remote is working. try to disconnect power from the DVD for a few minutes,

and try again. if it still not works the player is propably broken.

Good Luck

LaCie Case and new IDE drive not communicating with my MAC

It sounds like you have power but the communication method is not working. I assume it is a usb drive, (or it is firewire 400, firewire 800? How do you have it hooked up to the Mac? If you are using usb, I would try using a different usb cable. Same for firewire. You also might read your manual on the Lite-On drive is see if you have to throw some dip switch make it a master or slave setting on IDE.

I have lost my power cord to my LaCie DVD+RW Dual Layer....

Here is the PDF Users Manual for the LaCie DVD+RW 301230U
external optical drive,

http://www.lacie.com/download/manual/portable_dvd_sh_en.pdf

(Give it at least 10 seconds to download)
Should the direct link above not work for you, you can download the Users Manual from here,

http://www.generalmanual.com/Disc-Burners/LaCie-301230U-Portable-DVD-RW.htm

Go down to the bottom of the page, and under the green -> Download Now <- heading, click on -> User Manual
The reason I posted the link to the User Manual, is that you can use a USB to USB cable for power. You plug one end of the USB cable, into an available USB port on your computer, and the other end, into the LaCie DVD+RW external optical drive. (You need two available USB ports on your computer. One for power, and one to connect the LaCie external optical drive. This USB cable, is called an Interface cable)

The USB end, that goes into your computer, (Laptop or Desktop computer), is the USB A style end. (Male) This is what it looks like,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB_TypeA_Plug.JPG

The USB end, that plugs into the Lacie optical burner drive, is a USB Mini-B style end. (Male) It looks like this,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB_types_2.jpg
It is the second one from the left side.

Where I'm at, we have Walmart stores. At Walmart they sell a USB adapter kit, made by Philips. This kit has a USB A to USB A cable, that both ends are Male. This cable is on a little retractable reel. The reel is about the size of a USA fifty cent piece. In the kit are five different styles of USB adapter ends. They just plug on that USB A to USB A style cable. (On the small reel) One of those adapter ends is a Mini-B USB male end. It has a Female USB A socket on one side, and a Male USB MIni-B end, on the other side. The kit sells for about $12 dollars.

Should you find that somehow, this USB power cable does not give enough power to your LaCie external optical burner drive, then here is LaCie.com, Products, Support & Downloads, and the Power Supply, for your LaCie DVD+RW 301230U external optical drive,

Lacie hard drive won't turn on

My 1TB Lacie suddenly won't power up (no sound, no blue light). It turned out that I might have worn out the on/off switch over the seldom-use 4 years of usage. I push and flip the switch multiple times, and the Lacie came back to live and mount normally. I will just leave it at the On setting and simply pull the power cord when i want to switch it off.

Obviously, Lacie failed to do QA on the on/off switch because my 4 years usage did not totalled to more than 10 on/off per month.

Just bought a lacie d2 dvd +/- rw, store bought dvd movies don't mount and therefore don't play

Disconnect the Lacie dvd drive, then reconnect it and open "system profiler" to see if the drive is now recognized under "firewire" or USB depending on your connection. If that doesn't work disconnect all peripherals and turn off your mac for 5 minutes. Start reconnecting your devices one by one.
