HP Pavilion DV2000 (dv2615nr) was upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit from Vista and now DVD drive does not work and is not recognized in bios or Windows 7.
It's a common problem when upgrading a OS? Is the DVD rom the only component that's missing a driver? Any Unknown Devices? Have you opened the Device Manager and looked for the DVD? In Device Manager, Scan For Hardware Changes. Not Listed? Have you done ALL your windows Updates? All the HP updates? Try the driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-58707-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=2093&product=3548266&sw_lang= Download the software and SAVE to a folder. Modify the compatibility of the software from Win 7, using this procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/ BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A RESTORE POINT. With this procedure: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-restore-point.
Thanks for the fast response but it's not working in the bios, either. I think I need to start there as it is not in device manager. I know this may mean the dvd drive or mother board is toast but I think it had to do with upgrading to windows 7 from vista.
Again, it's a common problem in OS upgrades. In Device Manager, Is it the only thing that's not working? No unknown Devices listed? In Device Manager do a SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. In me previous post I listed the procedures , and Driver location.
No, it is not listed in Device Manager and Scan for Hardware Changes didn't find anything. System will not boot to the DVD/CD drive with a system repair disk inserted. If I plug in a USB DVD/RW then it will boot.
Have you done ALL your windows Updates? All the HP updates? Try the driver here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw... Download the software and SAVE to a folder. Don't I need to get the DVD working in the bios before I do anything in windows where it doesn't even show in My Computer or Device Manager probably because the bios doen't see it?
At this point , try anything. If you load the driver the BIOS will see the DVD.

I appreciate the attempt but the problem is either the DVD drive itself or the motherboard/connections. I didn't see a way to add drivers for a device that doesn't show up in device manager. Thanks for the effort.
Did you try?
You opened Device Manager, Did you see ANYTHING listed as UNKNOWN DEVICE? If not reseat the DVD rom drive and reboot the machine. AGAIN, it's a common problem when you do a OS upgrade. It worked before the OS upgrade , Right?
The DVD drive does not appear as an option when I try to boot from it or show in any way in device manager...all devices are there but no optical drives and nothing like an unknown device or something with an exclamation point. I tried loading an Adaptec storage driver (the only thing close to being a device like a dvd drive to install in device manager that I could see) and that didn't work either. I did pull it out and reseat it. If I plug in an external USB DVD it shows in device manager and in explorer and I can boot from it. A relative gave the laptop to my cousin and she couldn't say if the drive ever worked. I was going on the possibility that it was the Win7 upgrade since I'd heard of it before with HP computers and I can't get it back to Vista without disks. I don't have a spare internal laptop drive so I am going to just use the external my Dad gave me. I think the drive or motherboard are dead and I do not want to spend any more time on it. Thanks for trying.
