The electricity when out 4 times last week for a couple hours at a time. Know my oven will not pre heat or get hot. When i turn the breaker off then back on again the screen comes on and reads PF showing the time of day.The broiler seems to work but the bottom element will get warm but will not get hot and glow. I don't know if the element is bad or if it is something else up in the control panel.

Hi,
If your electric oven is taking too long to heat or just not heating up right, then check out this tip that will give more detail about your problem.
Your thermal fuse or TOD mounted to the back of the oven went out during the self clean,it shuts off the power to the elements.
The oven must be removed from the wall to change this.
Depending on the condition of the oven, it could take up to 4 hours.
I ran the auto self clean on my oven last week for the first time and it set automatically for 3 1/2 hours. (It stunk, but it worked.)
A couple things to remember is: (1) Make sure you do not turn the light on inside the oven. The clean cycle should disable it. (2) Lock the door if it does not lock itself. (3) Do not open the door during the clean cycle.
Remember the self cleaning temperature is extremely high. Do not allow children in the area while doing it.
Wekiwa, your TCO, (thermal cutout) probably opened during the high temps in self clean. You will have to remove the back panel and replace it. It should be just under the vent back there. Part number 4450934. You can ohm it out first to make sure, it will show open (no continuity) if bad. This is an easy job, won't take you that long. Kill power to the range before going back there.
In doing a little more research on your model, I see there was a service flash where they recomend moving the TCO over to one side so the cleaning cycle doesn't affect the TCO. This may be covered by Whirlpool. You might want to call them and inquire. Catriver..post back.
