Phone turns on, able to dial a number but cannot hear anything coming through. The party I call can hear me though. I dont know the type of phone it is, it's an older model motorola camera phone, maybe 2 yrs old.

Dear, since this mobile is new, you must have been turned your call speakers(front top speaker) to mute. you can turn it on in call setting menu or directly when you are in call.
The internal screen settings only adjust volume of ringer, the external button on side adjusts ear piece/hand set volume. If the volume buttons do not turn up the volume of the hand set then the handset is defective
I don't know why you can't answer your phone or why you banged it to get it to work but your inside screens connector may just have came loose as it sometimes happens with out you doing anything wrong. Just take it apart and check the wires on the solved problems I think there one that tells you how to do this.
this model do that when it get wet if that the case there is nothing to do but chage the board, go to the celu store they have jonk to fix these for about $25.00 more or less..good luck
