My sony Cybershot camera has the Lens stuck inside. I dropped it the other day. And apparently the lens hit the table first. Now the black shutter doors open, but the lens goes on a 20 second struggle to come out. It tries, but it cant. Then I get the message on the LCD screen that says " turn the power off and on again". If i turn on the camera on the viewing feature i can see all the pictures and everything works just fine. But the lens is ruining everything. Am i doomed? Please HELP!!!
Gently tap it on a table or flat surface a few times. Worked for me!

I guess you are Doomed. The Zoom mechanism is smashed and an economic repair is going to be a no no You could try a local repairer or Sony Tech help team but I feel it would be more prudent to buy the next camera.

SOURCE: Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!
I have the exact same problem with my Cyber-shot; the lens is stuck inside. After trying everything to loosen it (like wedging a razor knife between the sections, even dropping it or banging it against a book, etc) non of which I recommend, I finally got it open by PUSHING on the black telescoping section surrounding the lens itself. For some reason, this worked!

Usually answered in minutes!
Yes, my camera Sony DSC-W80 has the same problem. The lens turns on and off again, and it keeps showing this a message "Turn the power off and on again" but nothing happens...
I wish they could fix it, because seems like lot of people have the same problem... and it's likely a manufacture issue!!!
:(
Now I have to use a old Kodak "brick" I have...
I borrowed my gf's camera. I have the same problem. I did not drop the camera. I was just taking quite a few pics. The battery was running low, so I would turn it on and off to save the battery. When the card was full, I would delete a few pics. Then the lens just stopped working it got stuck & stuttered trying to open. I thought the battery was dead. I replaced the batteries later and the lens did the same continued to stutter then I received an "Access" note then an error message "Turn te power off and on again". I could review the images on the screen. Please help...is this a defect in your camera too?
i am sooo frustrated.....i have a sony cybershot...about a year old, and i was at the zoo the other day on a VIP tour behind the scenes (which was expensive) and at the beginning of the tour my camera started acting up and responding "access" "turn power off and on again"....so annoyed now that i see soooo many people with the same problem.tried all the solutions i seen here online.but alas, nothing worked.going to Sony tomorrow, and at least now i know that loads of other people have this problem i feel it should be resolved for free as it is obviously a manufacterer problem. good to know. stupid camera!!!!!!!
i have the same problem. but mines a tad bit weirder. i didnt do anything it didnt even hit anything which is weird because i have the same problem it has a struggle to come in and out again and on the LCD Screen it says turn off and on again. gosh this is terrible, i hate this, i had really good pictures inside.
My Girlfriend reported this same problem to me after some idiot jumped on her on a night out and she dropped her bag with the camera in it. Our model is the DSC-W70 though so it seems like its an intermittant fault with the Carl Zeiss lenses. All we get is the "turn off & back on" message now & the lense looks like its strugglin like one of Johnny five's eyes when he gets beat up in short circuit 2! had a play with it but no joy so luckily it's still in warranty but will take 4 weeks to sort out! However we now have no camera over Christmas because apparantly Sony dont do courtesy cameras! Gutted!
