Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!

My sony Cybershot camera has the Lens stuck inside. I dropped it the other day. And apparently the lens hit the table first. Now the black shutter doors open, but the lens goes on a 20 second struggle to come out. It tries, but it cant. Then I get the message on the LCD screen that says " turn the power off and on again". If i turn on the camera on the viewing feature i can see all the pictures and everything works just fine. But the lens is ruining everything. Am i doomed? Please HELP!!!

Yes, my camera Sony DSC-W80 has the same problem. The lens turns on and off again, and it keeps showing this a message "Turn the power off and on again" but nothing happens...

I wish they could fix it, because seems like lot of people have the same problem... and it's likely a manufacture issue!!!

Now I have to use a old Kodak "brick" I have...

I borrowed my gf's camera.  I have the same problem.  I did not drop the camera.  I was just taking quite a few pics.  The battery was running low, so I would turn it on and off to save the battery.  When the card was full, I would delete a few pics.  Then the lens just stopped working it got stuck & stuttered trying to open.  I thought the battery was dead.  I replaced the batteries later and the lens did the same continued to stutter then I received an "Access" note then an  error message "Turn te power off and on again".  I could review the images on the screen.  Please this a defect in your camera too?

My Girlfriend reported this same problem to me after some idiot jumped on her on a night out and she dropped her bag with the camera in it. Our model is the DSC-W70 though so it seems like its an intermittant fault with the Carl Zeiss lenses. All we get is the "turn off & back on" message now & the lense looks like its strugglin like one of Johnny five's eyes when he gets beat up in short circuit 2! had a play with it but no joy so luckily it's still in warranty but will take 4 weeks to sort out! However we now have no camera over Christmas because apparantly Sony dont do courtesy cameras! Gutted!

Gently tap it on a table or flat surface a few times. Worked for me!

I guess you are Doomed. The Zoom mechanism is smashed and an economic repair is going to be a no no You could try a local repairer or Sony Tech help team but I feel it would be more prudent to buy the next camera.

SOURCE: Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!

I have the exact same problem with my Cyber-shot; the lens is stuck inside. After trying everything to loosen it (like wedging a razor knife between the sections, even dropping it or banging it against a book, etc) non of which I recommend, I finally got it open by PUSHING on the black telescoping section surrounding the lens itself. For some reason, this worked!

Sony cybershot camera fell and lens is stuck

The lens may be out of position, or there could be dirt/dust in the lens mechanism. You could try some of the following suggestions:

1: Switch on the camera while you hold the shutter button and connect it to the AC adapter or to the USB cable at the same time.
2: Now by default the lens should get properly aligned if not try to twist them slightly by holding down the camera lens with soft hands.
3: Just push and pull the lens slightly as it extends automatically.
4: Now when the lens is in the hard surface power on your camera.
5: Try to hit the camera softly beside the lens which might solve the issue.

Sony cybershot dsc w80 wont turn on or retract lens. My camera suddenly stopped working one day, do not recall dropping it, etc. My mother has the same camera and I tried her battery and it still doesnt...

From your description, I would say something is stuck inside the lens mechanism of your camera. It could be a grain of sand or any small particle like a piece of fabric from a camera bag.

Hold you camera lens facing the ground and gently - moderately tap it repeatedly. You can also try spraying a compressed air into it.

Thanks for using Fixya!

My sony cybershot dsc-p200 lense is stuck.

Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 worked great then the lens stuck in the open position.
Read on this site some one suggested gently manipulating the lens and tapping it then turning it on. It worked!!

Sony Cybershot Camera DSC-S650 won't stay on.

that happen to my camera, exactly same thing. and i figured out when i dropped it the zoom out zoom in lens was bent and stuck part way in camera. My brother was playing around and moved lens and it started to work again. If lens looks a little crooked try moving it or putting it straight. Hope it helps

Lens Stuck

Same problem guys!!! LENS HAD GOT STUCK - ABOUT ONE THIRD OUT after a knock. After lots of playing, and tapping and batteries in and out tried the whole twisting and pulling thing whilst turning off and on.

After a few minutes it came free and whole lens popped out. I then had to twist the outer part of the lens to straighten that up and allow it to fully retract. Works a treat now!

PS Tried the Sony online chat support - useless!!!!

My Sony Cybershot lens is not retracting!!

The lens block needs a replacement and you need a good service center for this job. We can help you in spares supply. Do let me know as this is an expensive spare part. Sonyspares
