It ended up being a penny stuck somewhere under an edge of the drum. Husband had to take machine apart to find the solution. Unfortunately, since he put it back together it is now considerably louder than it used to be.

If every cabinet screw is in place and snug maybe you can isolate were the sound is coming from. If it's the tub area he might consider dismantling it again (always way easier and faster the second time.) Something may have not lined up just right or the penny pressing against the tub may have cocked the bearings from their seat. It happens to all of us more often than we'd admit. Usually when we dismantle it the second time we realize we missed a small detail somewhere along the line. For exploded views of your machine and lists of parts and prices and some manuals as well go here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/parts-... Or here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir... Click on the thumbnails and they will reappear with parts that correspond to numbers in the exploded views.

It may be as simple as a defective door switch or even a clogged drain hose (the hose between the tub and drain pump. Here are some videos that may help you more than i can. This guy knows:

Swich off the machine, try some WD40 on the door mechanism (on machine lock, not on the door) and open & shut for a minute or two. Then try the machine, spin only just to try.

I have a Whirlpool Cbrio top load washer. it won't start it's cycle. Once it senses the load, the lock lid light flashes and it does nothing. can this be fixed?

I would say that the lock has failed. Either the lock itself or maybe the pin or latch that fits into it when you close the door may have cracked / broken. If the machine thinks the door / lid is still open, it wont let you start it.

Wont drain and spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

My whirlpool cabrio washer has started shutting off half way through the wash cycle...won't drain and spin...could the motor be overheating or is there something else I can check?

Most likely the cycle timer needs to be replaced. it is basically a clockwork device that that has cogs attached to a spindle. if you check the schematics for your product you will find the part no. etc. any servicing of course needs to be done wit the power disconected

I have a whirlpool wfs1072Aw 7.5kg washer that has stopped spinning and won't start even the wash cycle

You probably have either a bad gearcase, timer, or lid switch. Defective motor is also possible.

The washer fills agitate but won't spin & drain

Possible fault with the program controller unit. You need to check the program cycle outputs using a multimeter connected to measure the output voltage. On start the inlet should open and then close as the water level sensors works and then proceed to wash. So this much seems OK. Now in the next step the drain valve must open to drain off, then fill once again with the inlet working and water level being sensed. If there is no output in this section cycle then the prrogram controller has errors within the memory . You can remove the panel and reset all connectors and connections.

Washer won't do spin cycle....and won't start any cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
