Question about Symphonic WF-719 19 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

Dvd player will not open.

Hello... my DVD player will not open on my combo TV. I am pretty good with electronics, so I opened it up (unplugged it, but was still careful because I know TV's are dangerous regardless). On of the gears busted off. Where can I order a replacement DVD player? Thanks Tammi

I figure that even if I can repair this, the time and money spent to do it will exceed the cost of a component DVD player that I can get from a supermarket. Besides I doubt if the quality of the repair parts will be any better than the original parts.

TV built in DVD

Just for you Sapphire Lopez,

I went out ... into the quite bizarre ... cold cruel world of DVD/TV combo sets ... If you don't have your owners manual... either reveal it to us or put it plus your model number on the internet... seems to be pretty good

One person stuck a post card in & got it to trip... FRANKLY... Unless you are ready to TRASH your unit... that'd be a no no...

Disc readers are pretty fragile ...

Another recommended unplugging for 5 minutes...

I'd sugest

flash-light... and look real closely around the edges for menu or the eject button

Buy that new remote

Look over the old remote:
Clean the contacts with a soft graphite pencil "lead"... or a tiny bit of white vinegar on a Q-tip
(dry all excess).

Put a tiny but of lithium grease (or even Vaseline) on the metal
(wipe away all excess)... Insert fresh batteries & give it another try (if for sure its dry.... only a matter of open air (no batteries).

(if you put in a specific TV/DVD model...
it did NOT make it out this end )

Comment me back... I can expound voluminously... as you prefer

Go Video Dual Deck VR2940

Hello bettysgarage. A common malfunction in DVD players. The mechanics has a bad part or something is jamed in the rails, arms, lifts, ect. I suggest you unpluge the AC, remove the case screws(note witch screw went were), and look internaly for something in the mechanics, thread, paper, loose paper clip, ect. Carefully postion unit and reconnect the AC so you may see the action of the disk tray in motion. Please be careful you have AC power and can get SHOCKED if you touch the circuit or wire terminals. When no object is found you have a bad DVD that would require a local service technican to repair unless you are technically inclined to vinture futher. Good Luck.

Toshiba tv/dvd combo

Hi there!
The drive belt that controls the tray probably snapped. Not sure about the mech on your set, but you can try and see wether you can lift the front cover of the tray slightly. Check to see if you can see a gear inside, using something thin you can try to manually turn that gear from right to left or the other way until the tray opens just enough for you to pull it open. If this is not possible, please refer to a repair technician. Please unplug mains from the wall before you check. Good Luck, Regards, JUS004

I had to unplug mine from the wall, then make sure the TV is off, and hit the open button.

No power to DVD combo player. VCR OK.

The power circuit for the DVD and the vcr are separate look for a open diode and transistor in the circuit that supply the DVD.GOOD LUCK.

Cannot get tv to switch to different source

You do not mention if you have unpluged the tv from the wall,is the easiest thing to try,if the set resets and still does not open the tray you can still force it open it manually but very carefully just to remove the dvd,if you can not force it open by pulling evenly in both extremes of the tray and you feel the dvd still is not coming out even with the tray open, dont go further and get help from a servicer,we do not want to break the mechanism.(set should be unplug )You can also remove the back cover and see if the main conector to the dvd player can be unplug,if it does you can leave it unplug and try turning the set on.This information might help you make a decision but the best solution will be to disassembly the dvd and remove the stuck dvd without forcing anything. The set is faily new and is worthed the repair.Let Us know how it goes.

Dvd won,t eject

This is going to require opening the unit and taking the DVD unit covers off. If you feel confident and are good with tools and have a good memory (to remember how it all goes back together), you should be able to get the DVDs out. Just remember to be careful inside the unit, go slow and don't force anything. After the DVDs are out and you have the unit back together properly it should be OK if no damage was done to the laser assembly. Good luck.

DVD drawer in TV/VCR/DVD combo won't open

Hi, The problem may be mechanical or electronic. If the drawer is stuck from being bent or jammed it is mechanical. If the system controlling IC circuit is defective, then it is electronic. If it is still under warranty the factory should be responsible for it. If it is not under warranty, the cost of repair is likely to be more than the price of a new dvd player! Sorry, Daniel
