Solid Red Light, Solid Green Light, won't respond!!!

I haven't used the printer in several months. After dusting it off and replacing the ink cartridges, I tried to run the maintenance program through the driver software (downloaded). I always get an error saying "cannot communicate with the printer." Also, there is a solid red light. The printer will not engage its normal charging process, so I'm stuck pressing the big yellow button and the button next to the red light over and over again, but to no avail!!!! (yes my printer is hooked up to my computer via USB) so it should be "communicating." Any help would be very appreciated!!!

Solid red light, and solid green light. Suggests that my computer is not communicating with printer, but they are indeed connected. I unplugged, restarted, shut down, etc.

Problem started after printing about 20 pages, with heavy coverage and I got notice that the ink cartridge was empty. Replaced one and tried using a utility, and this is when I got the message.

Its the same problem-- the only thing is that I use this printer every day and when I try to print, a sign will pop up and said to "remove all foreign objects from the printer"... I don't know what that means but I'm sure I haven't put any foreign objects in it

How to replace the ink cartridge

1. Look at the indicator light on your Lexmark printer. You'll need to replace ink cartridges when the light flashes or turns red instead of the standard green.

2. Purchase Lexmark ink cartridges. You can buy the brand name or purchase a generic version that is compatible with your printer. You can shop for low cost ink cartridges from ABC Ink.

3. Remove the old cartridges from your printer. Grip the sides of the Lexmark ink cartridges and pull it out. Dispose of the ink cartridges in a recycle program like the one at Staples or save the cartridges for refill.

4. Install the new ink cartridges after removing the protective tabs. Avoid touching the IC chip when installing the new Lexmark ink cartridges. Replace the cover of the printer.

5. Allow the Lexmark printer to run a nozzle test. Print several pages with the new ink cartridges to make sure you installed the ink cartridges correctly. The indicator light should return to a solid green color.

Epson R800 The power light is solid green and the ink button is solid red. I cannot print anything because one or more of my cartridges are empty, but it won't allow me to use the Status Monitor to check...

Open your printer cover and press the ink button. The cartridge under the out of ink symbol is the empty one. The following URL has the details: http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r800__/r800__00u1.pdf#page=80
If you press the ink button again and another cartridge lines up with the out of ink symbol, record that. Repeat until the cartridge moves to the replace cartridge position. Buy all the ink you need before you attempt to replace any of the cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Epson Stylus 440, solid light on for black ink, have replaced and still won't print

This morning I was researching to purchase a new printer to replace the 10 year one. The last cartridges I had purchased were from Printpal and made in China. They looked the same, but I had to force the door closed on them. With the solid red light on and replacing the cartridge three times with new ones from this order, it was time to find an old used cartridge from another company that I intended to refill myself. I did, installed it and the solid red light disappeared. The old Epson Stylus 440 is still ticking! However, I had written off InkGrabber for unused cartridges going dry in 2 months and now Printpal is on my $%%# list for non-uniform replacement cartridges as well as not lasting long. I am back to refilling my own. I had followed the instructions for resetting the ink level indicator, but to no avail as those instructions are for a blinking light, not a solid light.

I appreciate your website, if for nothing else, to be able to vent. Thanks so much for your follow-up inquiry and I'm sure you'll hear from me again soon about my old Epson.

Ink carts being not recognized and you say its a brand new printer?
Heres what you may want to try.

1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the usb cable from the printer

2. Press and release the ink button once you see a solid green light and solid red ink light

3. Open up the printer cover and check out where is the ink cart holder positioned

4. It should stop in the middle part of the printer, you should see an arrow or a ink out marker (ink icon with a / with it( indicating which ink cart is out or not recognized or expended. (This is a usual process on all the epson stylus photo series I had)

5. Press and release the ink button again, it should stop to the next ink cart which you are having a problem and if it doesnt then your ready to reclamp the ink carts.

Just follow your manual usually theres an on screen instructions how to manually replace or reseat the ink cartridges. If the issue persist, you may want to contact epson, ask for a warranty procedure or what you can do next for this. (Either a bad set of ink cart or a bad print head) Good luck!
