Either the DC fuse has blown in the power supply circuit that supplied power to the lens block assembly or there is a mechanical problem in the lens section. At best we can supply Sony original spares and serviice manuals. e mail me further.

Firstly try another battery to remove this as a possible issue. After this check the contacts in the battery compartment are clean and dry (moisture will kill a camera dead quick) If this is good then try plugging in the USB cable. This will sometimes kick the camera back to life. failing this some cameras are eqipped with a dc cord, try plugging it into the wall using the supplied transformer) If none of this helps then give it a light (light) tap against a hard surface and see if anything flickers (make sure there is power) Failing all of this there is little hope I'm afraid. Electronics these days are indeed disposable (not cheap yet still disposable) I will think up some more trys if none of this works.

My camera lense won't go in. Everytime I switch it

Your batteries are too low.
When you switch on the camera, the lense go in. Then lense comes out fully. Then, if the batteries are low, lense goes in and camera turns off.
But if the batteries are too low, camera turns off before the lense retracts or even before the lense comes out fully.

Could be sand particles getting into the seams around the lens barrel, binding it up. Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

If your camera isn't under warranty, I think that it has no worth to repair it by the after-sales. But you can try to fix it by your self, anyway there will be no loss for a bad camera. May be this post will be any helpful: turn the power off and on again

My camera lense is stuck and my camera wont turn on

hi...The transmission system that moves the lens in and out has a problem with it's gears. There is most likely a gear or an actuator that has fallen out of alignment and is getting stuck at a certain point as the lens comes in/out.There is some disturbacnce of the lens arrangement that is preventing the lens from coming in/out.Any of these symptoms above could trigger the camera to shut itself off to protect itself from further damage.

My Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55 camera does not turn on properly. When I press the gallery button, everything runs smoothly. When I press the on button, the lens opens and closes several times, making a little...

Hi. I had exactly the same problem with my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7. The problem started after while lense was fully open, the battery became 100% empty. I did not have access to new batteries and did not have my charger with me so I put the camera on my car seat and went home. After charging the batteries, I turned the camera Off and the lense retracted 100%. Later on I tried to transfer some pictures to my PC. After connecting the camera to my PC with the dial in the P position and lense fully open I turned the dial to play in order to transfer photos. After transferring the pictures, I turned the camera off and disconnected from the computer.

I turn the camera on to take new pictures next day, The lense would go up, and and turn with lense fully open. It would never close. The screen was black with a message "Turn the camera on and off again". I tried 30 times or more and the same thing would happen again.

Here is what I did to fix my camera and it has been working normally since then.

1- I cleaned around the outside of the lense with lent free cloth

2- I used dust OFF to get raid of the remaining small dust particles from around the lense.

3- While turning the camera off, I pushed (down, up and turn) the lense in (NOT TOO Hard) by my hand. If you push the lense too hard, you may damage the mechanicall moving parts of the lense.

4- After a few tries, the lense retracted 90% +. I then pushed the lense a little harder all the way in, the way it normall retracts. The lense cover also closed 100%.

5- I turned the Camera on and off a few times. It was opening and closing exactly the way it used to. My Cybershot has been working okay since then.

I read a lot and here is what cause my lense to malfunction.

While lense was fully open and battery died, some small particles got on the lense and prevented lense from fully opening or closing.

In summery: two things could have caused your camera lense to malfunction.

1- if you had dropped your camera hard, some mechanical parts may have got damaged or dislocated. In this case you have to open the lense and replace the damaged part, clean and put it back on the camera. This is too risky for most ordinary people. You would most likely make it WORST.

2- If you did not drop it, most likly, some how some small dust particles got on the outside of the lense and they prevent the lense or the lense cover from fully opening and closing. If this is your case, please follow exactly what I did and your camera would be back to normal.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My canon SD850 IS digital camera is not even a year old and well taken care of. I thasnt been dropped and is already broken? What do i do...everytime i turn it on all of the sudden the lense is stuck poped...

Take a look at the suggestions at the top of page 122 of the Advanced Camera User Guide. The suggestion is that the cause may have been that the camera was still on when the memory card/battery cover was opened. Try closing the cover and then turning the camera off and then on again. Hope this helps.
