Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer
If you are using vista the computer comes with its own drivers so if you down load and install a let's say an XP driver the machine gets confused and will not recognise th printer. I spent hours talking to HP India and finally did a system recovery. Good Luck!!

Have you restarted the computer since installation? if yes, then which version of the driver are you using - the one that came with the printer is probably out of date, you can get the latest one from this link; http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/Public/Templates/DownloadTop.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID=%7b793F000D-FF08-4F3E-A06F-003B8D6CF622%7d&NRORIGINALURL=%2fbsc%2fpublic%2feu%2fgb%2fen%2fdlf%2fdownload_top%2ehtml%3freg%3deu%26c%3dgb%26lang%3den%26prod%3dhl2040_all&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest&prod=hl2040_all®=eu&c=gb&lang=en If downloading and installing this doesn't help, then in "printers and faxes" select "add a printer". A wizard opens, try the automatic option first, if that doesnt work start again and try manually. Always restart the computer and re-plug in the printer after changing anything, to see if it works before moving on to the next step. If the printer is connected to a network, not just the one PC, there are other possible issues - please ask if this is the case.
