I HAVE A EMERSON AV510 CD/DVD SUROUND SOUND SYSTEM. WHEN I INSERT A DISC(CD OR DVD) IT WILL READ THE DISC THEN LOAD. AFTER A FEW SECOND IT WILL SAY BAD DISC. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO.
Another thing you might try that will keep you from having to pull the cover off of your unit is to get a CD cleaning disk at Radio Shack or Wal-Mart or where ever and give that a try. They are fairly cheap (about $3 to $5) and best of all you won't have to remove the cover to use them. They don't do as through a job as a "manual" cleaning but if you cycle them thru about 2 or 3 times there is a chance that they will clean the lazer lens and you will be done. Of course, if that is not the problem then you are still stuck with taking it to a repair professional and probably the first thing they will try is a manual cleaning and then it's on to the more expensive fixes if need be. Good luck!

The only thing you can do I'm afraid is to disassemble the unit, find the lens and clean it off with a cotton swab abd a little alcohol. if this does not work, the spindle motor, or the laser assembly is most likely bad, and this will need to be repaired by a pro. The only problem with that is most of the time, the labor and the parts exceed what a new unit cost most of the time. Good Luck
