Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi i have a Dell E173FPc 17" TFT LCD Flat Panel Monitor and when its turned on the screen comes on and the says auto adjusting then goes black cheers for any help

I have the same problem. I unplugged the monitor and disconnected it from the computer. I powered the monitor directly from the wall socket. The STFC appears for about one second and the monitor goes black. Turn off the power and then turn the power back on and the smae results occur; i.e., the STFC appears for about one second and the screen goes black.

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

Normally you can push the menu button on the monitor to look at menu options. If there is no input it will normally show that on the screen initially and they go into sleep mode.

Check if the cable connected to your monitor and video card is fix and secure.. Check also if the video card is properly seated in the motherboard.... Try to check using other computer if the video card is working..

If the test is all ok.. then the last option will be to check the backlight inverter of your monitor....To do this, you need to bring the monitor to a credible technician to have it replace..

You have a unit with a failure in the backlight power supply. This is a common problem with LCD monitors after 2-3 years of use. It sounds like you are not getting any power. I would try another power cord to see if it makes a difference.

Monitor goes blank after a second after power outage

what happend is your monitor cought the brown out and the power supply capcitors are not defective and what that means is the monitor needs to be repaired there is no quick fix please rate accordenly thanks.

You need to disasemble and check for dry or burn capacitors first then check for the transistors near the inversors.Good luck

Next thing I would check is the VGA cable between PC and monitor.

Make sure is in at both ends and if possible try another one.

Do the Dell Menus come up with no VGA cable plugged in? Is the light amber? Flashing or static?
