Hi, When I turn on my PS2 and insert the disk the blue light flashes for about 3 seconds and the disk comes out. I had this before but I just left it overnight and it started working again. How do I fix it?

When the disc tray pops out, reset the ps2 and wait for the tray to close and turn of the ps2 at the back. Then turn it on, press the reset button and it should work.

This has happened to me before. You will have to open the PS2 and clean the laser which is under the tray(or on top i forgot).
Use a cotton bud to clean it but be extreamaly careful cause if you put to much pressure on the laser your PS2 is gone for good!

SOURCE: PS2 not working

Try the auto diagnosis if it will let you; To start the auto diagnosis feature: Press the standby/RESET button on the front of your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system to turn on the system. Make sure the indicator light turns green. The Main Menu screen will appear. NOTE: It might take some time for the main menu screen to appear. Using the directional buttons, highlight Browser and press x Highlight System and press x Highlight Diagnosis and press x Highlight On and press x Insert a disc. Auto diagnosis will start automatically. The system will make adjustments that might allow previously unplayable discs to be played. To start the disc after auto diagnosis is complete: Press o twice to return to the browser screen. Using the directional buttons, highlight Browser and press x Press x to play the disc. NOTE: The diagnosis setting automatically returns to its default state of Off when you press the standby/RESET button or start playing a PlayStation®2 disc. (any confusion check this link); http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps2/hardwaresystem/default.html If that doesn't help then; "Owners of early PS2 models purchased from launch until spring 2003 often reported faulty optical drives in their consoles. The earliest drives suffered from a constantly misaligning laser lens, but later defects were the result of a shift in voltage to the laser. The first problem was easily remedied by opening the console's casing and tweaking a cog that controlled the lens' distance from the disc. However, this action voided the console's warranty. The second problem could be fixed by using an oscillator. After many consoles had broken down, a class action lawsuit was filed against Sony. Sony agreed to provide free repair or replacement for the faulty consoles and continued to do so until February 2005. Another problem that could cause a disc read error is wear on the coupling in the head assembly to the worm gear that moves the laser. A symptom of this is a loud repetitive clicking sound. However, this problem rarely occurs on newer consoles." Some of these units can be easily fixed by just cleaning the lens - check this link for instructions on how to open the ps2 up and how to clean the lens; http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/ They suggest isopropyl alcohol to clean with, without specifying a strength - gin works fine and is weak enough to be safe. Check this link for a very clear description of the whole process, including the voltage adjustment, only without pictures; http://faqs.ign.com/articles/390/390535p1.html Hope this helps, please ask again if these don't solve the problem :)

try holding the disk drive after it closes for a few seconds and see if it stays closed or one of the drives gears could be stuck, loose,or broken.you might need to open it up.

SOURCE: PS2 stoped working

Send it into sony for repair (if it's past the warranty,my Suggestion is to ask for a Exchange Unit for $75.) :) I did that with mine and it came back a "new unit" (a refurbished v1)

if you had opened your ps2 the cord connecting to your motherboard for the tray the cord probably came off its a gray cord you take your ps2 apart and it connects the top part to the bottom part just reconnect it to the insertion point it connected to and you should be back in businesas

When I go to play a game on my ps2 and put the game in the ps2 eye prevents the disk from spinning I have the newer ps2 that is slim the eye that reads the disk keeps sliding up and the disk does not get...

Does this happen to all of your Discs? If you know someone who also has a PS2, try to run your discs first on that PS2...If they worked, then probably either the lens of your PS2 needs to be replaced, or it only needs cleaning. Or it is also possible that your disc isn't inserted on the disc tray properly...and by "inserted properly " on the tray I mean is to make sure that the 3 pins on the spinner of your PS2 are sticking out of the hole on the DVD and thus gripping the disc...

Disc Tray

The rubber band inside your PS2 might be broken, the rubber band supports the disc tray and it ejects and inserts the tray.

Sometimes if play too much long, some of the PS2 parts will be damaged by excessive heat, so my advice is that your minimum gameplay time must be 3-4 hours only.

Please den't even try forcing the tray to open, it will be more damaged.

Try resting your PS2 for about 1-2 days, after that try to open the tray, if the problem still persist bring to a PS2 fixer near you.

Can't power on

try unplugging the dvd player then plug it back in as this treats it like a reset.

Disk tray won't stay in

Your PS2 is definitely broken. Either send it in to Sony to be repaired or buy a new PS3. Bummer. Sorry to hear about this.

Hi Sammy,

You have a connection problem in the Reset Eject circuit.

I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.
  1. Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
  2. Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
  3. Remove all the screws.
  4. Remove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
  5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
  6. lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the Reset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
  7. Check to be sure the ribbon cable coming from the reset/eject cable is fully inserted in the second connector from the front.
If this is not the case, you may want to check out www.playstationclinic.com . This could be a circuit problem and may need technical knowledge to gain repair.
