Some some remote control have RST or RESET button, you have to push this every time you change the battery or for malfunction remote control. You can find this either in front of remote control or at the back of the remote in battery compartment.

SOURCE: air conditioning unit remote control problem
when something is broke you can never break it worse so dig in and look for a stuck button or broken piece of plastic lodged in between the buttons or
you may want to go to: harmony web site and see if your model of a/c is supported these remotes are rather expensive us$129-$499 but much less than replacing the A/C and can control 225,000 devices made by 5000 different manufacturers just about any device under the sun. on the website under device choose home automation then climate control your brand then model number to see if your A/C is there. If you decide to go this route I would reccomend to check all the other devices you have also.

SOURCE: Wall Hung A/C unit remote
I just got onto a technician who solved the problem for me. What he had me do was:-
The other thing is I had been messing around with the "Manual/Auto" button under the grill on the wall unit. It was set so that the A/C was off. I'm not sure if that is significant.
That didn't fix it so...
Hope that helps.
Cheers,

I recommend putting new batteries in the remote. If that alone solves your problem great. If not, get back and let me know
