Screen goes blank when I plug camera into computer

I'm trying to upload some pics from my camera to my iBook. When I put the camera in "playback" mode, it's fine. However, as soon as I plug the camera into my computer, the green light next to the lens starts blinking, and within a couple seconds the screen goes blank. The light continues to blink but nothing is visible on the screen and my computer doesn't "recognize" it. I put in brand new batteries a few minutes ago and also checked to make sure the Power Saving mode is off. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have to say Mac's I know nothing about. But the simple way would be to purchase a universal USB card reader- and use that.

Try NOT using the USB connection.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

If, after viewing the pics on a computer, you don't use the "safely remove hardware" function before pulling out the cord/card, the files on the card may become corrupted and not recognized by the camera anymore.

Since your two cameras have the same problem with the same computer, I would like to suggest you to connect those cameras to another computer. It looks like the problem is on the computer side.
