Screen blank The screen will only work during the "panoramic mode" (the one where you can take several images to link together side by side. At all other times, whether in camera mode or review mode, the screen is blank. This occurred suddenly after no particular trauma. Replacing the batteries or banging it on the table have not helped. Is this the type of malfunction described in the notice on the cannon website?? Service Notice: CCD Image Sensor Advisory (Updated 10/31/2006)

I know the solution to the problem because this has happened to me once before and now it happend to me again. What needs to happen is the firmware needs to be reloaded. However since you can't see the screen to know which menu page you are on, it makes it very difficult to load the firmware. We need someone with the same camera to walk us through the menu so that we get to the right spot in the camera. I think when i did this the first time it may have taken a couple hours for the firmware update, but I did it before i went to bed so im not sure how log it takes. but this will solve the problem. If anyone can walk us through the menu please post. example: press menu than right twice than down once than ok....... Just an example but that would be good

Possibly not as this refers to the image capture device and your appears to be firmware or control button problem But it sure is worth getting on to Canon customer support about it.

CHANGING THE SCREEN ASPECT RATIO: ( From Manual )
The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Panoramic, and Normal. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the screen aspect ratio:
1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight the Wide icon. Press OK.
3. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight your desired screen mode and press OK:
• Normal preserves the content's original aspect ratio. Since the 4:3 aspect ratio is not large enough to fill the TV's screen, black bars are added to the left and right of the display image.
• Wide stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio picture to the edges of the screen. Since the picture is being stretched, the display image may appear distorted. If the program is already formatted for widescreen viewing (1.85:1 or 2.35:1), then black bars will appear on the top and bottom of the display image.
• Zoom expands images with black bars to fit the screen.
• Panoramic expands the display image to fill the screen.
images may appear wider than intended.
If you are watching widescreen (1.85:1 or 2.35:1) content, black bars will still appear on the top and bottom of the display image. This option is only available when the TV is displaying a 480i/480p source.

How to Troubleshoot Vertical Lines on an LCD TV Screen

<p>There are two prevalent formats for video programming: full screen and wide screen. LCD TVs are designed to show a wide screen picture to go with high-definition (HD) programming. When standard-definition (SD) programming is watched on an LCD HDTV in its default settings mode, there will be two vertical lines on the right and left sides of the picture. You need to go into your TV settings menu to troubleshoot this issue.<br /> jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); <span><br /></span> <span>Instructions</span> <ol> <li> 1 Press the "Menu" button on your remote control and open the "Picture Settings" sub-menu.<br /> </li> <li> 2 Select "View" from the list of options.<br /> </li> <li> 3 Choose a viewing mode that will eliminate the vertical lines. Select "Zoom" to crop the on-screen image to fit the screen. Select "Wide/Widescreen" to stretch the on-screen image to fit the screen, or select "Panoramic/Panorama" to stretch the sides of the onscreen image to fit the screen (recommended).<br /> </li></ol>

My olympus e volt 500 will not display image when in shoot mode

There is a little button on the back, marked 'info'. Press it to switch from picture view to settings view. It also operates the viewfinder.

Olympus also has a good photo editing program that is free and it allows you to edit photos and stitch pictures taken pn panoramic mode into one panoramic picture. It's called Olympus Master.

How to take panoramic shots with sony a300 slr

It's all about the lens. There are special lenses for that. Or you can just take 3 or a 360 image around you and combine them together. I would recommend a tripod so the image is level and one is not too high and too low.

Have fun on your trip.

Scn mode

You need to press the function/set button and click right until you reach the "Stitch Assist" icon. It looks like two overlapping boxs. Once you activate it, take photos, repositioning each shot to align with the last. When you are done, press function/set button again to end the process. After you download your images you will need to use the bundled software, ZoomBrowser, to stitch the images together. The option is in the Tools menu, "Stitch Photos".

Distortions in sides

Sounds like you might be in the panoramic display mode... check your remote for a button labelled "WIDE" - it's on the left side just below the "GUIDE" button. Hitting WIDE will cycle through the various viewing modes (normal, zoom and panoramic).

Screen black

Yonatan: It's a Manufacturer's Malfunction. Canon already recognize the problem and they are supposed to repair your camera even if you don't have any proof of purchase, beacause the problem is in the camera (their product). You can call Canon at 1-800-828-4040 to schedule an equipment check and repair. Do not open the camera or bang it against anything. We don't want Canon to have other excuse for not repairing your Digital Cam. SithPitt

Image layering thru lens, imprinting on card in top right corner as small panoramic

Wow, that is strange. Is there a reset button or procedure, like holding power and exe or some other key combo in the manual? I had a C-5050 that would boot to a picture of a girl, not the normal Olympus splash screen, couldnt figure that one out either. Good luck, let me know if you give up on it or need more help..pishta68 at hotmail.com
