Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera
I also have a new SD600 camera (6 months old) and consistently have trouble downloading images to my DELL PC laptop (windows xp). The problem is connecting to the computer. I downloaded fine at first, since I have continuously tried opening the camera window and unplugging and replugging the usb cable into the computer. It worked once. Now I can't download at all. The computer recognizes the camera is attached (mouse gets the hourglass), but the EOS Utility application doesn't automatically launch. Nothing happends except the hourglass goes away or the camera turns off from being idle. Any attempt have the computer recognize the camera manually gets 2 results (1) creates the "Compter cannot detect camera" error, or (2) nothing happens. I tried "My Computer" as recommend to no avail. The camera icon is visible but clicking on the download link gets an error that says the camera is being used by another application. The computer in a catch 22. You can't get around the computers attempt to recognize the camera, but none of the applications actually recognize the camera. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Did you download the canon download app or are you using the installed pc generic camera download app? it will make a diference if the computer cannot reconsile which too use. let me know and we can go from there

I am using (and have been) the canon software that came with the camera. I was finally able to download the images after doing the following (1) open ZoomBrowser EX, (2) turn camera on (in view mode) and (3) then plug in the camera to the computer. Canon says expressly not to do this in the manual. It seems to download on its own prerogative because I am pretty sure I tried that method earlier in the week with no success. Not sure if this will be a persistent problem. Thanks,
I have the exact same problem. My camera is the SD750 and I have just purchased it. It would download properly 1 out of 10 times, and you never know when it would work or not. I usually get the same pop up information as listed by robb828. I even tried your other suggested method and didn't work for me. I unistalled and reinstalled the canon program as well and still doesn't work properly for me. Any other suggestions???
