Microwave Turns on automatically

Three to four times per day, my microwave oven comes on by itself. It is running in a programmed way; for example it says it is defrosting or cooking vegetables, etc. From the display screen you can see it is running these fixed programmed cycles (cooking vegetables; defrosting, etc.) This microwave was manufactured in Feb. 2006 but was only recently used. Any suggestions on how to delete the preprogrammed cooking cycles from the memory of this microwave will be appreciated. AJ

Emerson mw8987B Turns itself on by itself , I came home from work to find my microwave running , I have no idea how long it had ran , but when I opened it , It was very hot, I have unpluged it from the wall. This is the second time this has happened, I thought I was going out of my mind, Fix it before you burn someones house down. Paul Willsher

I'm having the exact same issue. I unplug overnight, but sure enough, the next day it will do the same thing. I'm pissed because I've only owned it less than 1.5 years.

Probably a defective keypad. Check with manufacturer; some brands have issued recalls for this problem as it is a fire hazard.

In the meantime, unplug oven or leave door ajar when not in use to prevent it starting on its own.

I would remove the plug from the mains for at least one hour. This should remove any memory
