Error message and not cooling Kenmore 795-7730

I noticed the food was warm and the motor was not on. The temperature panel had an Err message on one side and a number and letter on the other (don't remember what it was as it is currently temporarily ok). I was advised to unplug it and wait a couple of minutes and then plug it in. This worked but a few hours later it happened again. And then at 2AM I happened to wake up and didn't hear it happily running and it was the same problem. There were 2 very brief power outages two days before but there didn't seem to be a power surge. I think the computer in it has lost its mind. It will run but it does not sound as robust as before. Oh, did I mention the warranty ran out 21 days ago? I hope I don't have a $1500 doorstop. Thank you, Jacquelyn

Thank you so much. I have posted the error message. It was dH and I have yet to hear the defrost cycle...it clicks and pops very definitely. If it is the sensor, I think I can manage nicely should I be able to get the part.

Catriver should be able to help. The solution to my problem was indeed the fusable link but I did not have the dexterity to climb in and get to it...I fervently wish I had. The part took a week to arrive after many frustrating phone calls with conflicting answers. Then they arrived for an appointment I canceled and of course the part arrived half an hour after they left. They said the tech would call me...not. Then they had me scheduled for the next day but had not assigned a tech. Finally it was fixed...except that now the outer bottom edge of the freezer is icing up. BUY THE WARRANTY!! I got to spend $240 for a posthumus warranty. Funny the bill was about $1.50 over the $240.

Hi Jacquelyn, the second part of that error code is important. Er- F5 freezer sensor malfuntion, Er- r5 refrigerator sensor malfuntion, Er- d5, defrost sensor malfuntion, Er- dH, defrost system malfuntion. So it could be any one of these. The 5 may appear as an S, or vise a versa, that depends on where ever your at. I have been finding the fuseable link in the defrost system on these models open preventing the defrost cycle. This would invlove removing the freezer back panel and removing the sensor and fuse from the evaporator. It's just a plug in. I'm not sure if that is your case but if you post the full error code, one of these nice techs at this sight will give you more insight. Catriver.

Fridgidaire refrigerator flashing error code 4

From what I remember a flashing 4 means "damper error". Send your model number found inside or on the outside of the fresh food section, The air damper is found between the freezer and fresh food section and regulates temperature in the fresh food section by opening wide for things that warm up your fresh food section example would be opening the door and letting warm air inside . The damper then closes to keep the right temperature. If you have questions please ask, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge is cold, freezer is not

Please look into the freezer for frost build-up on the rear wall. If you are having a defrost problem it may limit the freezer temperature and still be cold enough for the fresh food section to remain at safe temperatures but not for long before freezer and fresh food section warms because frost blocks airflow and the evaporator is unable to keep everything cold because of frost build-up. I don't have your model number so I will list the parts that may need to be replaced. The defrost control=> 12002754 Frost Kit, defrost thermostat and 67002493 Defrost Heater Assembly

67003426 Defrost Thermostat

For testing of the defrost thermosat and defrost heater refer to the same page as the parts, If these parts are good the the 12002754 Frost Kit, could be defective. The 12002754 Frost Kit,
can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Let me know if you have questions and also if you are not having a defrost problem, Thanks Sea Breeze

Is there a difference between freeze-dried and dehydrated food?

Yes there is, in freeze-drying process they use a cold temperature and in dehydrated food they use warm temperature. In the freeze-frying process the fresh foods are frozen first then the moisture removed in a vacuum chamber and since the food remains frozen during the process, the food's cell structure don't change.

We own a 15 year old Maytag Plus, model #RSW2700, side-by-side refrigerator. Several months ago it was leaking water onto the floor. Additionally the outside of the refrigerator, freezer side, was very...

Hello, first thing that you would check would be to remove this panel numbered 28 on this diagram click here http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/X2902579-00004.png
following your removal of the panel then you would have access to the evaporator drain coil. If you noticed any icebuild up on the drain coil this would first have to be defrosted using a hair dryer due to this is termed as a defrost issue whereas either the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, the defrost timer or the adaptive control would have a fault and have to be tested. If you do see the ice build up message me back and I will instruct you how to test. The next area that you would look at behind that same panel is the evaporator fan motor which is part number 16 on the same diagram if there is no air flowing from this fan then the air cannot go into the refrigerator side of the unit. If the fan is working and you have no ice build up on the evaporator you would then go to the inside rear wall of the refrigerator click this link http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/X2902579-00002.png notice parts 12,13 these parts mainly 12 is the freezer damper it is a small door that is supposed to open and close letting the cold air from the freezer side of the unit into the refrigerator side of the unit. Assure that there is no ice build up on the damper door and that the door does open and close easily and is not stuck in the closed position. This damper control is located in the ceiling of the refrgierator which is part 5 on the diagram as well. If you also unscrew that entire panel that is on the ceiling is how you would access the control which is attached to the knob that you turn the refrigerator to become colder. Check to see that the fan is working in your freezer and to see if you have any ice build up first and then message me back. Also If you have any questions message me those back as well. I await your reply. Thanks
Rick

Temperature does not go below 59 deg. refrigerator side.

Auto Damper models, The Auto Damper model refrigerator has
two controls and both have capillary sensing.
The Auto Damper controls the fresh
food temperature and the Freezer Temperature
Control guides the freezer temperature.
The fresh food compartment temperature
is maintained by a damper assembly located
at the back of the temperature control
housing. Changes in air temperature
cause the damper door to open and close.
A control rod and gear connect the fresh
food control knob to the damper control.
Turning the fresh food control knob to the
COLDEST position increases the flow of
freezer air into the fresh food section. The
freezer compartment temperature control
warms at a faster rate and cools at a slower
rate, increasing the compressor run time
necessary to maintain a satisfied freezer
temperature control.
Turning the fresh food control knob to a
WARMER setting decreases the flow of
chilled air into the fresh food section. The
freezer compartment temperature control
warms at a slower rate and cools at a faster
rate, decreasing the compressor run time
necessary to maintain a satisfied freezer
temperature control.
It is ver possible that the auto damper has failed and will need to be cosidered as a likely cause. Part Number Click here=> 61005971 or 1005641 Auto damper control assembly here is the Service manual=> MSD2756G Instructions can be foun on pages 38 and 39 in your manual. If need you may contact me here on Fixya or my Forum=> Appliance 911 My contact information is located above the Fixya Ad on my blog here=> Sea Breeze Appliance Parts and Technical Services, www.pcappliancerepair.com

Food in refrig crispers freezes. Top of freezer too warm.

Good day,
You are right about it being little or no air circulation. There is a fan motor in the freezer, which you can access by removing the rear panel of the freezer panel.
That's the good news. The bad news it is a DC variable speed motor controlled thru a thermistor and powered from the motherboard located in the back wall of the refrigerator.
You can remove and take the motor to an appliance parts house that deals in GE parts. If they determine the motor is bad, then you could effect a repair.
If not the machine is too complex, and some parts so expensive that repair is best left to a GE qualified pro.

Frost build up in freezer and warm temp in a GE Profile TFX22PRXB

Modern refrigerators are designed to self defrost and it is essential to the airflow to have an evaporator coil that is clear for air movement. If the rear interior panel of the freezer has frost appearing, it is most likely a defrost problem and must be corrected before temperatures can be restored to normal. Your refrigerator most likely has a defrost timer located on bottom behind grate, or inside behind control panel. Could you find the correct model number so I can help you better. Thanks, Sea Breeze
Look at following areas for the model number
  • Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
  • On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
  • Beside Compressor Door On Right End
  • Near Rear Of Cabinet
  • Inside Liner At Top

GE PROFILE SIDE BY SIDE MOD PSS25MGN - NOT COLD - FOOD THAWING!

Sounds like a main control board defective .The one on your refrig WR55X10552 , is on a recall list .
http://www.scribd.com/doc/13371507/Ge-Motherboard-Concession-Letter
The new part number is WR55X10656 . I would suggest calling GE , to have them come out and check , as this part and labor , should be covered , as stated by the letter .

Not cooling but everything seems to be on

remove back panel inside freezer and evaporator pipework will be exposed.
if this is heavily iced up, airflow will be impeded and hence rise in temperature
disconnect from mains and melt ice off carefully with a hairdryer then switch back on
you probably have a fault with the defrost system if this is the case - get back to me
