Removing kenmore vacuum Canister motor cover model 116-27312790

My vacuum starts smelling like there is burnt insulation aafter using it for a while. I wanted to take the motor cover off to check the motor, but dont seem to be able to find the screws that hold it. In facat, I cannot open the vacuum at all. Is the cover press fit so that I can just try to slip a screw dreiver in and pry it off?

What you need to do is take it apart and look for any carpet peices dug up in there preventing the motor to spin. Also go look for another filter for it and if you google it you can probably get instructions or if you still have the book.

The motor in the Kenmore canister started smelling like wire burning and then made terrible noise. I ordered the exact replacement motor and swapped them. Installed the same way the original came out, ran...

Hi,

Actually there not supposed to burn up. I have read some reviews on that model Kenmore and it seems it is plagued by electrical problems.

I would definitely contact Sears customer service.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

With vacuum on but not using, motor began to load up--whine began to rise--then sudden free flow and terrible smell emitted...thought the bag had failed and a shot of dog hair and dust reached the motor,...

This sounds like your motor going. If it winds up then down it could need new motor brushes or a new motor. Also, if the smell is kind of rubbery it could simply be the powere nozzle belt. Hope this helps, Chris

My vacuum was working fine, then started to smell a little funny like something was burning. Turned it off. Now when you turn it on it will run for a few minutes and then shuts off, like something is...

The smell is usually the fan belt. When the brush is stuck in place, the belt spins and burns. Check to see if the brush is free to spin. If the Belt is burnt, it needs to be replaced.

Smoke coming out of my Kenmore Canister Vacuum Model 22550300C

Sounds like a motor err. Could be repaired by a professional but it never be as good as a new one. Also they you might not find anyone to repair it because the replacement motor might cost more than a new vacuum /considering it's age the motor will be hard to find and that makes it more expensive to repair./

I suggest you to buy a new vacuum.

Burning smell from motor...what needs replaced?

Without the complete model number, I don't know for sure what componets you have, most likely is the motor. You will have to take the motor cover off and check it out. You can go to sears.com, click on parts, enter your complete model number, scroll down to cannister and it will bring up a parts list where you can order parts, also a diagram of the cannister.

Depending on which model, there is a couple of scres on the bottom, then on each side and back are release catchs that you pry up to release the top, then you can get to the belt. The other model you take off the light cover, it just snaps in place, then you can take out 2 screws from the top, on each side there is a slot, put a screwdriver up into the slot and pry out to release the tabs, then the cover comes off and you can get to the belt.

Problem with motor; need to open the motor compartment

The top piece near the back comes off, use a screw driver to pry the corners out then it will come off. Then you can get to the 2 screws holding the motor housing off. When you put it back on, it just snaps in place.

My vacuum kenmore canister smells

My guess would be a slightly loose belt - tight enough to spin the roller on a hard floor, but loose enough to slip (then get hot and stink) when the roller is having to work against the pile of a carpet. Worth buying and fitting a new belt without pausing to investigate further, simply because they're so cheap and you'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway. A.
