2006 Pontiac Vibe Logo
Posted on Jan 22, 2009

The battery in my 2006 pontiac vibe went dead. I recharged it; however, the setting for the door locks changed. It now unlocks automatically when I turn the car off instead of when I put the car in park. I need to know how to reset it.

The 2006 Vibe no longer has that feature. It was discontinued after 2005. I have the 2005 so I know how to change it. If your 2006 is able to change then here are the directions from my 2005.
Programmable Automatic
Door Locks
If you have an automatic transaxle, your vehicle is equipped with an auto door lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your power door locks.
Your vehicle left the factory programmed to Mode 4.
The following is a list of the available programming options:
Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking.
Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.
Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with the ignition on.
Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or to LOCK.
To change the mode you are in, do the following:
1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position.
See Interior Lamps Control on page 3-16.
2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Within five seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in
the lock position for about five seconds.
5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, if the lamp flashes once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.
If the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.

I just tried this on my 2006 Equinox, and it did not work, but i messed around with it for a while and learned the way to do it on my vehicle:

Turn the key to the ON position
Hold the UNLOCK Button for about 5 seconds
The horn Will beep either once or twice.

It seems that One horn beep means that the doors will lock when shifted out of park and unlock when shifted into park. Two horn beeps means that it will lock when shifted out of park but will not unlock when shifted into park. Hope this helps.

2006 Pontiac Vibe won't start - It appears NOT to be the battery or a bad neutral switch. What else should I try?

If you disconnect the battery, you need to reset the security system. You need to find out why it didn't start when you came out of the store though, and for that you need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer.

Is remote start built in my Pontiac Vibe vin 5y2sm65846z409024?

Hi does your transmitter have a button on too dead center between lock. Unlock buttons. The logo is like a circle. You should lock doors two times then push and hold circle button down 4 to 5 sec. Parking lights should come on and it will start. Ps if your check engine light is on for any reason remote start is disabled automatically. Until check engine issue is fixed. Hope it's helpful

How do i reset power door settings 2006 pontiac vibe

While I have not had this problem with my 2006 Pontiac Vibe, I had the same problem you describe on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately, the solution is to replace the module in the door panel. I was able to purchase the part at a much lower price on ebay than a dealership, about 1/4th the price. However I had a professional mechanic do the replacement because removing a door panel can be tricky to do without damaging it.

Pontiac Vibe is locked with no battery. How to unlock doors? Key doesn't work the locks.

I had the same problem yesterday. I removed the battery (that was near dead) to take to get tested, but I had locked the doors and closed the hood before leaving. When I got back with the new battery the key fob wouldn't work, and the key would not manually open the doors. I ended up having a mechanic friend reach up under the front of the car to manually release the hood (it took him about 20 minutes to figure it out), replaced the battery, and then the key fob worked again. I'm not sure why the keys wouldn't work in the door - any ideas there?
