Types wrong Characters

I actually have the wordsmith 250. When you type it doesn't type the correct character. I have taken the letter wheel out several times. Everything looks like its in good shape. Any suggestions?

yes it does always type the same wrong letters. Is there an easy fix for the drive gear?

We have had 3!!! Wordsmith 250's and we have had the same problem with each one. They work fine for a few months and then begin to replace characters with two parallel lines. One typewriter was repaired by Smith Corona and now the repaired typewriter is repeating the same problem. The second typewriter (both were bought new) was replaced free of charge by Smith Corona. Still in the box, but I have no doubt that this will happen again. They don't get excessive use. Any clues as to why this could be happening?

My pin wheel is typing the wrong charactors - I have removed it several times and cannot seem to get it to the correct characters.

Ours started typing the wrong letters also, and not the same ones each time.
Have removed the wheel multiple times and reinstalled it nothing improved. It was typing along fine and then just happened.

Does it always type the same wrong letter ie a always prints u or w ? if so the print wheel drive gear is out of position. if not and it get random letters some thing may be interfering with the wheel rotation.

I have a SC Wordsmith 250- It started having poor print quality, now only types vertical lines and strange symbols. Also the LCD display only shows partial and broken characters, although the characters on...

The printwheel may not snapped in properly and going to it's home position. . Keep trying..it will spin to its home position when installed properly, providing its not broken or bent. The other problem may be the ribbon may have a bind in it or be out of ribbon. There is a wheel or hole on the ribbon to mover to tightened it up. try that

Print Wheel Drive Gear is out of Positoin

Normaly this would not be a user adjustment, possibly the grub screw hold the wheel hub to the motor has come loose, very small allen key needed, you make be able to shift it back to right place. Usualy this is done with special alignment jig
