I HAVE A SAMSUNG SW-252S CD BURNER THAT CAME WITH THE COMPUTER. MAYBE 6 MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE COMPUTER THE CD BURNER STOPPED WORKING. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ANY CDS, BLANK OR OTHERWISE. THE COMPUTER SHOWS THE DRIVE LETTER BUT WHEN I PUT IN A CD IT TELLS ME TO PLEASE INSERT CD. i BOUGHT A LENS CLEANER BUT WHEN I PUT THAT IN, IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT EITHER SO THAT WAS A WASTE OF 15.00. I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S. IT RECOGNIZES AND BURNS DVDS, BUT IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE CDS EITHER. I BOUGHT THAT TO REPLACE THE SAMSUNG, AND IT WON'T RECOGNIZE THE LENS CLEANER EITHER. ANY EXPERTS OUT THERE? I'VE BEEN BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST A WALL ON THIS ON FOR A WHILE. THE BURNING SOFTWARE THAT I USE IS NERO.
They both won't read any CDs period. The LiteOn will read DVDs, but no CDs, music CDs burned or CDs purchased retail, Data CDs nothing. They won't read them. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drives, nothing seems to work. They both won't read any CDs period. From reading your comments and reviewing comments from other people that had the same problem, it is best to just replace the drive. This isn't software or a firmware problem, because the drives worked at one time. My guess would be the drives are bad and need to be replaced. From reading your comments and reviewing comments from other people that had the same problem, it is best to just replace the drive.

Rony, it sounds like your CD drive is dead or dying. Or, you might be running on low power. Did you add anything new, like a new video card, or anything else that would draw power to it?
stick a straight paperclip into the tiny hole in front a few times. This manually rotates the gears and will eject the cd tray.
If it does not still come out because of the jammed CD - you may need to use force!!

May be there are some cable fault. Just check that the cable CD-RW to Motherboard and the power cable from SMPS attached in CD-RW is ok. Then try. If it works then fine. If not, then just format C drive(Or where u have installed the OS). Coz I've already gone through a problem like this. In that case the cables ware ok. Then I just format the C drive and install a fresh copy of XP. And works fine till now.Let me know the result.
