The hammer on the typewritter that is suppose to hit the letter onto the paper will not move. Everything else seems to be working except for the hammer thing. I've tried turning it off and back on and tried to reset it but nothing seems to work. Please help. Thank you...

The print hammer is striking between the letters. Two thing
you may have a petal, letter broken off. If its the same letter every time usually thats it, need new daisy wheel.
Or Homing is off when the wheel turns hammer hits between letters. Needs repair.
Or
Daisy wheel petals are bent.
It is probably the print solenoid that has a broken cap. I have seen a few advertisers that sell the repair kit with instructions. It is fairly simple to repair.
Hammer sticking and typing incorrect letters (and or skipping letters): 1) make sure daisy wheel installed correctly. 2) hold down CODE key & Q (RESET) to reset wheel...if still not corrected 3) WD40 the hammer at the base & joints where moving parts are, keep typing until oil seeps in (this last one fixed it for me)
Typing light and inconsistant-top part of letter okay but bottom too light or not there: to left of hammer (at base) are 2 screws, I losened them and adjusted hammer to different forward and backward spots..finally found the ideal location where full letter printed and had the correct force it needed to print correctly.
It sound like you have a broken part. If the hammer is not hitting hard enough, the armature theat make the hammer strike the keys is broken. This is a common problem with the ax's
the mark you are seeing is the print hammer hitting the paper. remove the ribbon. corr. tape & print wheel. turn on the typewriter. close cover let it home it's self. open cover put in print wheel. close cover let it nome. put in ribbon close cover. try typing if marks are still ther. you will need a new print wheel. if working then put in corr. tape or if you are better at spelling then me you will not need it
do you see any impression of letters on the paper when you type? if you do the ribbon not lifting or not driving. If you do not see an impression the print hammer is not firing. try to lub it with wd40 or light Wait oil. some brother typ's have a rubber bumper under the print hammer that deteriorate & need to be replaced
