Is there a filter that I can clean out located behind the round cover on the lower right front of my Bosch Nexxt 500 series washer? If so, how do I get the cover off?

Just pop it off with a small srewdriver and yes you can get to the fluff filter through the round cover
when you open the filter there will be about two litres of water come out beware

For majority of bosch washers, the filter is to be found behind a removable plastic panel at the front bottom of the washer; unscrew filter anti-clockwise, clean and refit .

Check the pump filter. This is located at the bottom front right of washer. Look for a drop down flap or cover, once located, unscrew filter anti-clockwise to remove and clean. Be prepared for a lot of water and junk. If you find a closed hose pipe when you remove the drop down flap it is to drain excess water.
The pump itself is directly behind the filter housing, check if there is nothing stuck in the housing, especially after you are cleaning out your filter after a long time. Clean out and refit carefully

Does this machine have a filter on the drain line? How do you access it?

The filter should be located at the bottom front right of the washer.
It may be behind a removeable plastic cover at the bottom of the washer.
Unscrew anti-clockwise to remove and clean.

I am replacing the lock, what does the plastic rod hanging down from it do and does it need to be attached to anything

It attaches to a pull strap. The pull strap is in case the switch fails it can be pulled to get the door open. Most bosch pull straps are located behind the drain filter cover (lower right).

Bosch 100 series will not drain

You need to check and clean the pump filter if you have not already done so.
This is located at the bottom front right of washer.
Unscrew anti-clockwise to remove and clean.

Sounds like the filter needs to be cleaned
This is located at the bottom front right of washer behind drop down cover or flap.

Bosch Nexxt 100 series front load washer

You first of all need to check the pump filter.
This should be located at the botom front right of washer.
Look for a drop down flap or cover, once located, unscrew filter anti-clockwise to remove and clean.

The pump itself is directly behind the filter housing, check there is nothing stuck in the housing.
This should solve the prob.

Clogged pump

You need to clean the filter.
This is usually located at the bottom right front of washer, behind a drop down cover, or removeable plastic trim.
Unscew anti-clockwise to remove and clean.

It does sound like the problem is related to the water pump.
The filter should be located at the bottom front right of washer, sometimes behind a removeable cover.
Locate filter, and remove by turning anti-clockwise, and clean, check inside the filter housing for anything in there as well.

The water won't drain from my Bosch Nexxt 500 Series Washer machine

I solved the problem by using a sump pump to drain most of the water, then I removed the cover plate on the lower front right of the machine to get access to the drain plug. Upon removing that, some water flowed out but not too much, I found a sock jammed in there which wasn't allowing the drain or spin cycle to work properly.

Interestingly, the machine's manual says that the cover plate is only to be removed by a Bosch authorized service repair representative. Saved about $150 by simply doing this myself.

Front loading washer does not advance past the rince cycle

Check and clean filter, it is usually located behind a plastic panel at the bottom front of the washer, remove cover and unscrew the filter cover anti clockwise, pull out and clean, replace and test, if it still does not drain, then possibly pump blocked or faulty.
