Question about Epson Perfection 4990 Flatbed Scanner
I had to replace my computer and the new one came with Vista. I'm slowing reinstalling my old applications including Photoshop but have not been able to scan negatives using my Epson 4990 nor my Epson RX-500's scanner. I'm using the recommended drivers and reflective documents scan just fine. However no negatives can be scanned. I'm in the middle of archiving over 500 4x5 negatives and can't proceed without this working.
I thought I had this problem too...I couldn't select FILM as a document type. I downloaded Epson 3.04A and it still couldn't let me select film. Then I reattached the cord (from the top lid to the main portion) and now it works!

Try using a third party scanning solution EPSON is known not to keep up their drivers so many third party solutions have popped up. I like one called vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/ it works for MAC and PC and is not very expensive

I'd installed Vuscan and although I like it's speed it did not solve the lack of negatives scanning.
Update...
I have my system on auto updates and this scanner has begun working properly with negatives. I don't know what update contained the fix. I also have an Epson RX500 with built-in scanner which had the same problem. I'll be checking to see if it works now too.
The 4990 does not work at all with my new (Vista) machine, even after installing the downloads. Any suggestions?
