Hi I just got this thing a couple of days ago and after using it a few times it now shows "No Sim" error message. I haven't touched anything, it has not been dropped or something like that. Any suggestions?

Fold a small piece of paper like 1/2 a chewing gum wrapper and slide it in the SIM slot with the memory chip. The problem is the memory chip is not making contact with the pins.
WOO HOOO.... that was a fantastic suggestion CompuGuy44.... Thank you soooo much for that as it has fixed my problem and my iphone worked straight away :D

hello miss sally, hi, the operating system error may be caused by a faulty hard disk or hard disk connection cable, and the hanging thing is caused by a faulty memory module, so check then out first, swap a new memory module, and for your hard drive, take it out from your laptop and use a PC to test the drive (applicable only if your hard drive is sata.)
My problem is quite similar... My iphone works in some parts of delhi and it shows no service for other parts of delhi... If i use idea sim on my iphone, it works absolutely fine... and if i use my airtel sim on any other phone then also things appear ok..
1- Restore it to factory settings and when its done dont restore from the back up instead set up as new iPhone and then Sync your info, contacts, Apps, music ect...
2-get a new sim card from your carrier
3-update itunes to 9.0.1 and update iPhone to 3.1 if all else fails and wait for DEV team to finialize 3.1 jailbreak
the new sim card is connected with having an iphone account. when you say it is officially unlocked. does this mean that AT&T unlocked your phone? what i think your saying is that if you have 2 sim cards, one that is in use and the other is a spare you cannot use both. at the same time. the sims are standalone, to use a spare sim it has to be activated by the carrier, thus disabling your original sim. when you change sims you will need to reboot the phone that will not change.
I also had purchased an Iphone clone not to long ago. My service provider was AT&T. 90% of the time when my SIM card was inserted the phone would read "emergency mode". I would have no service, I wouldn't be able to receive or send any calls or text messages. I talked to AT&T representatives who would solve the problem for short periods of time but never gave me a permanent fix. I immediately sent the phone back to the seller. I have been doing a lot of research on these Iphone clones and I have seen quite a few times that people have problems in this area, not being able to have service. Also, what you have purchased and think is a genuine Iphone very well may not be. Many models of these Iphone clones now have the Apple symbol on the back and even have the Apple logo displayed on the screen when they start up. This being the case, you may very well have purchased a fake Iphone which would lead to problems with your service provider. I'm not sure how to fix the problem, and for this I apologize because I know how frustrating it is not to have service. But, I can tell you that your best bet may be to return the phone and try something else. All I've heard is that the genuine Iphone is the best way to go. Because these clones are made by independent manufacturers and not sold through AT&T, even though they may seem nice, many people have constant problems with service. Good luck, and if you find an alternative solution please let me know!
This seems to be a recurring problem that I have discovered was a problem with both the original iPhone as well as the iPhone 3g. I just had this happen to me 3 days into owning the phone and the "solution" set forth to me by the apple tech at AT&T was to go into settings and place the phone on airplane mode for a couple minutes and switch it back. This surprisingly worked for me albeit for a matter of minutes. I was then instructed to do a Network reset also through settings under the "Reset" category at the bottom. Although it didn't immediately resolve the problem, after I manually entered my friend's number each time I texted for about 4 texts I have been able to text uninterrupted so far. Not sure this is a permanent fix yet but it's worth a shot for you guys as well.
Try clicking the 'Restore' button on the Summary page in iTunes, when connected to a PC. If that doesn't work, you'll have to take the phone back to an Apple store.
