Technics 1210 Stroble Flicker and Low torque

I just replaced Q1, Q2 and D3 to solve my previous problem (after shorting out the target lamp). I now however have the problem of low torque. The platter spins up slower than my other deck (about 1/4 of a rotation slower) and then takes less pressure on the platter to stop. When the platter is stopped (under pressure ) the red strobe light seems to flicker? any suggestions what this may be - could it be one of the IC's or just a brake adjustment needed? thanks

SOURCE: technics sl 1210 will not start up

did you ever open the turntable. It sounds like the on/off switch is bad. Remove the platter and screws with a phillips screw driver and just make sure the connections are in place. make sure you disconnect the power first. let me know what happens afterwards.

As everything was normal before you started the work, I'm thinking you might have disturbed something. Such as caused a wiring plug to come loose. Maybe even a bad solder joint somewhere?

There is power going through my technics 1210,but the platter & strobe light still will not work

how do you know theres power to the unit if theirs no strobe light pitch adjuster light & the platter doesn't spin?
the power comes in & to the transformer first, then through the strobe switch, the transformer is what blows when you short the target light out.....i've seen this many a time when people try & change the target lights to blue neon.

Has anyone else had the problem with their 1200 technics, where the turntable doesnt spin,it judders back and forth??

1, The regulator circuit has failed, usually transistors Q2, Q3 and zener diode D3.

OR

2, The drive I.C (I.C101 / AN6675) has failed, this can be natural failure but also can happen if the deck is turned on and started with the platter removed.

Target light won't turn off

Your wires are crossed. You'll have to switch them out. Make sure when you put the wires back together, that they are covered properly with either electrical tape, or heat shrink tube. If any part of the wire is exposed and it touches the cabinet, it will ground/short out your turntable, and you'll have an even bigger and more expensive issue to fix.

Lamp replacement fears

No flying screws on the lamp (on this model anyway) you should have no problems!
Good luck!

No, this has nothing to do with the fuses. The problem lies with one or a combination of faulty IC's (integrated circuits). More than likely IC201 (Turntable Control IC), but IC101 (Turntable Drive) and IC301 (Pitch Control IC) will also cause this sort of issue.

Also take a look at R213, it generally gets very hot, and you can tell by looking at it and seeing discoloration, and might be the starting point to this mess. It's good to replace this as well, while your at it - however, it is no longer available from the manufacturer, so you'll have to match up the rating for it. In addition, take a look at Q2 and Q3 (Regulators), those also tend to burn out at the same time.

Good luck.
