SOURCE: Laptop won't BOOT

Hi,

This is VIkram Kumar Thumu from India- Hyderabad. I have seen your message at this web site... and I would like to provide my solution on the issue.

Well, the message " 1-07 test failed " by HDD test in BIOS confirms that Hard Disk Drive of your Laptop is gone bad .
Hence to resolve the issue, need to replace a new Hard Disk Drive for your notebook.

I am sure that this will resolve the issue.

If you have any queries or issues you can mail at [email protected]. I'll be glad to answer ...

Thank you.

Bye.

My computer will not boot windows xp os

Do you mean it won't pick the disc? If so, try F10 it should also give you a boot menu if you don't see press any key to boot from cd... The other option is boot into BIOS and change your boot order. CD-ROM/DVD should be the 1st option.8_28_2012_7_14_07_am.jpg

I have a sony pcg-grt360 laptop, and I need to install XP from external cd-rom - I can not get into the bios to make the changes to select boot sequence - I need to remove the existing password

Unfortunately this laptop uses the restrictive style of BIOS password. Meaning if you can remove the cmos battery there is a good chance it will not forget the password.

Unfortunately the only way to truly clear it is to replace the whole motherboard which is a nightmare, especially with an older machine like this.

Are you sure there is no way you can get the BIOS password / remember it? I assume that is what is going on, correct?

Please let me know, just reply to my answer here...

Thanks
Tim

Hello! Here is my problem; I have Gateway MX6426 laptop and CD drive went off. When I try to install Windows XP from external CD drive some problems occurred. I put CD in ext.CD drive, run clean...

Press F1, ie for Gateway to enter Bios settings.
Go to your BIOS MENU,

From "Boot options" set 1st boot to "removable drives" save the setting, ie if you are using an external CD/DVD or USB flash drive. If you are using an external CD/DVD Rom, ensure that the power supply to the external CD/DVD Rom drive is sufficient.

Try and reinstall the Operating System again.

Hope it helps, and good luck.

How to boot to CDROM? unit: IBM Intel Pentium 4 1.8 ghz

At power on, you should have an option to hit F12 or another key for boot options. From there choose CD/ROM

System reboot

Depending on what bios it has it may not show the cd drive. All you can do is set it to auto or if it has the option to cd or atapi. Then set the boot order so that the cd is looked at before the hard drive and you should then boot off of the cd.

Check the following:

1 make sure that the cdrom is okay. if not sure then try cleaning the cdrom lense which can be found in the cd tray,

2 make sure that the cd disc you are trying is a bootable one

My pc was doing this but now it's doing something different but simular

Try telling it to boot the CD instead of the disk for now, since you need to install from that...or perhaps a newer OS.
