Windows 7 should install on the Travelmate without any problems. However, you are correct to assume that some of the drivers will either not be available or out of date. You can find the ACER drivers on the Acer support page.

Try removing the battery and plugging the machine in as if you were going to charge it, then try starting it up.

If it doesn't start up, check the connections on the adapter. If everything looks fine then theres a possibility that you have a broken adapter.

To get you buy temporarily, buy a portable flexible laptop for 15 bucks at Bed, Bath and Beyond (they have a nice little gadget area) This will allow you access, the keyboard can be rolled up when not used and is USB. Then either search for a "key" or the whole keyboard on Ebay...they are usually 15-25 bucks. Below is the service manual for your laptop for disassembly of needed components.
