About a month ago my computer was going into standby at random but I fixed that problem and it's been working fine since then. . . but the other day, it froze up on me, and when I restarted it, it kept shutting off. And I'm still having this issue. I read situations similar to mine, but none quite exact. What happens is when the adapter is plugged in, it'll boot up and then either shut off or freeze up. . .most of the time shutting off. When it is just running of of battery power, it stays on for a good while. When I leave the power cord in to "charge" the battery, the computer comes on, then shuts off, the the light does not show the battery is charging. I've taken the battery out and put it back in, but that does not seem to help. I have no idea what the problem is. I really need help!
There might be a short in the power adapter. You can have it tested at any electronics repair shop. Your battery is probably getting very little charge. If the adapter is bad, I'd get it replaced very soon before it really ruins your laptop.

By the way, I have Windows 2000. If that helps anyway.
