I know this is an old post, but for others that read this, it's no problem at all to get deleted photos and videos back. Please see this post for several other free software options that you can download:

Try this link: http://www.pcinspector.de/smart_media_recovery/uk/welcome.htm I've used it many times and it works. I know what you're going through but this should recover all your images and then some. And it's freeware! I'ts very user friendly as well. NewMediaMan

    I should have explained.
You download and install the software from the site (follow the above link). Connect your camera or insert your card into a card reader. Run the recovery software and tell it to recover from the camera. It should show up as a drive.

Let me know if it works and thanks in advance for reviewing me.

First, make sure your camera can accept SDHC cards. If the camera says the card is locked, move the slide switch on the side of the card.

I have a canon powershot SD400 elph. Camera menu

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

Canon Powershot SD400 won't upload pics to computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Smoke fume from canon sd400

You should send the camera with the battery for service to find out if there is a defect on any internal circuit boards, or if the fault is actually the battery. There is no reliable way for you to determine this yourself, unless you have the proper setup and training to service these cameras.

Can't playback pictures

Try formatting the memory card in your camera. Search the camera's menus to find the option that lets you do a "Full" or "Low Level" format, and NOT a "quick" format.
