Question about Pioneer VSX-D511 Receiver

1 Answer

Pioneer vsx-d511 When I turn on my receiver it will click on for about 5 seconds then it will flash "AMP ERR". I take it that it has something to do with the internal amps. Does anyone have any information on what is wrong with my receiver and what can be done to fix this problem? If it needs professional work done on it, any estimates? thanks

Clark, you MIGHT have a simple problem here. Let's keep our fingers crossed... This problem generally has more to do with the speaker WIRES or their IMPEDENCE than anything else, even though the receiver displays "AMP ERR." (Technically, it IS an amp error, but the source MAY not be the amp!) The very FIRST thing we need to do is check to make certain ALL of your speakers have an IMPEDENCE of 8 OHMS. (Pioneer says 6, but that's not necessarily a good recommendation, particularly if you listen LOUD.) Virtually all speakers of even modest quality will include this specification on a label on the back of the speaker. You CANNOT run more than (2) TWO speakers with 4 OHMs impedence on ANY amplifier (technical discussion too long!) [NOTE: Your receiver has internal overload protection systems to prevent permanent damage. On SOME Pioneer models, these can be "reset" but you can't do it yourself. Your dealer or authorized service center must do so.] But, before you take it in for service, there is one more "test": check for shorted and/or mis-connected/disconnected speaker cables/wires. 1) Visually inspect connections at the receiver AND speakers. You might find something obvious! Look for bare wires touching one another. Again, you must look both at the receiver, AND at the speakers. 2) If everything looks okay, then disconnect ALL of the speakers at the receiver; and reconnect and test them one at a time (at relatively low volume.) For example, reconnect the left front speaker, test the system; THEN add the right front, test the system, and so on, ADDING one more speaker each time - FIRST MAKING SURE EACH OF THEM HAS AN IMPEDENCE OF AT LEAST 8 OHMS! IF there is a short (or bad speaker) this will help isolate it. Hopefully one of these simple fixes will get you up-and-running. Good luck!

Pioneer SC-LX75 with a flashing green MCACC

dear, I have a problem when we have been listening to music through headphones turned on the light mccac (amp.err.) and then blocked pioneer sc-lx75. the unit can no longer turn a blue light constantly flashes. I've tried all the variants of the wires however unsuccessfully. device was purchased in Germany and is still under warranty however I live in Bosnia and here we have an authorized representative. my mate who is a wizard for technique will look at it blindly, so I ask if we can roughly tell which way to go. I know this is uncommonly what you ask, but the way to Germany and back to me pretty much cost time and money. Please help if at all possible, greeting dado from Banja Luka.

I have everything hooked up correctly and cleanly, but when i turn my truck on the blue light flashes on then off and my subs do nothing. I don't know if its shorting out or what is going on.

sounds like a loose ground, or a loose positive cable or possibly a blow inline fuse, and the only power your unit is getting is from the remote. triple check all your connections. use your senses, smell the amp, smell for a burned order, this usually identifies if it is something internal. but it sounds like in your case (from experience with) a bad ground. If your gound or positive is connected but not tight it may be enough to power the remote circut, but not good enough to handle the actual turn on (Click) of the circut. powering the led light usually takes about .5 amps, but powering the turn on switch usually takes anywhere from .5 to 20 amps, then the inital charging of the capacitors that are internal on every amplifier... that quick charge pulls a decent amount of curren fast (usually the first 2-3 seconds) to fully charge a small amplifer after it has clicked on. hopes this helps

Amp err

That will be the internal amplifier in the unit itself giving an error message.

Onkyo tx-sr602 as soon as i turn receiver on it flashes protect

Does it display any message like "Protect" or something similar? Do you hear a relay click on then off?

Did the amp just not power up one day or did it stop working while you were listening to it? Finally, do you have teenage kids who might have been listening to your receiver and would have "neglected" to tell you that after listening to their music it suddenly stopped working?

It could be an internal fuse but chances are its something that requires a technician to repair (like the output transistors).

Receiver standby/on switch is flashing and cannot turn receiver back on

Try checking your speaker cables as one of them may be touching the case of the amp,or touching another cable, this can cause a short and cause the error message. The amp is protecting itself .
hope this helps.

Stand by button flashes but receiver wont turn on

I have vsx-d812 that has an AMP ERR in error menu. the troubleshooting was found to be Q696 and Q697 in the DC prot. area on "C" board, up near front toward diplay in center of c board. You can get access to error codes on VSX pioneer unit by pressing "enter" and "adv. surr." simultaneously for 2 sec. The display should show what error code you are experiencing. I believe there are three diff. error codes. 1) AMP ERR 2) OVERLOAD 3) BOAD ERR (not mistyped) I hope this helps pinpoint error code for ya.
