Re: my Envision EN 7100s
OK this unit more than likely has a Power Supply failure, Usually the Electrolytic Capacitors in and around the Power Stage. They Dry out and go faulty.. and cause this type of problem.

Doesn't really sound like the monitor is the cause. The video driver sounds like it might be failing on load. You can try starting in safe mode, open device manager and remove the video card from the hardware list (You can also do this with add and remove hardware in the control panel of XP). Restart and let windows install fresh drivers on start up. This may help if the driver installation has been corrupted. Note that you will need the original driver disk if you want the extended options of your video card, otherwise windows will install the generic windows driver which in some cases is no different from the factory driver.
The repair shop set the PC video resolution to higher resolution to use with their monitor and did not put it back to the same resolution for your monitor which cannot handle the higher resolution. You need to lower the PC video resolution to the native reslution of your monitor which is 1280 x 1024 @60 Hz. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4873371-fixing_out_range_format_not_supported
Please verify that it does the same with other PC. Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed Envision monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also. http://www.badcaps.net http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

catamount309, This is only a guess, but unit may have internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter" board problem. When screen goes BLACK, is it also BLANK? If you can see WIN-desktop with aid of bright flashlight 1 inch from screen, then SMPS is in partial shutdown mode. If you see nothing, then SMPS is in full shutdown. In either case, Technician will need to repair the SMPS/CCFL inverter board. If KNOWN GOOD monitor works with PC, then you know 7100e is bad. Do you know and understand how the new energy efficient screw-in curlie-Q light bulbs work? If the "electronic ballast circuit" not working, then it can't light-up the CCFL tubes on the reverse side of LCD panel then you see black. Do more reading in my fixya profile for more options open to you. Do your research first!! Hey, reading is free!!!
Will you fix or trade for new? 12fixlouie
To reinerate,do you have the driver for it? I am sure that the old monitor was made by HP for your HP computer.
Go to the Envision website and download the LCD driver and install same. Link provided below:
