Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

My laptop opens a different program or opens multiple identical programs?

Every time i type or open a program my laptop opens different application such as if i click the start menu it opens the outlook program?????

I cannot open WordPerfect files with a double click.

Have you tried check the file associations? Try re-associating the application that your OS uses to open a type of file.
To do this, find a file of the type that you want to associate with a certain program. Right-click on this file and go to properties. Under the general tab, find the line that says "Opens with", select change. Now a new window will pop up asking you to select a program to use to open files of the same type. In this case you would want to select Word Perfect. If the program you want isn't on the list (and you know you have it installed), select "Browse". You will now have to look through your program files to find the main application for the program.

Don't open two programs that uses webcam, for example: if you have skype application opened with video call you can use the webcam at yahoo messenger. make show application that requires one web cam features like video calling are online opened when needed.
if the is a hidden program that you sure to have close it that is still in process, then open the task manager and click on applications, you will see and end it process there, if the problem persist then restart the computer.

You do not have a default program for your video viewing or that particular video requires a specific program to be used. Ensure that your computer has a video player such as Windows Media Player if you are using a Windows OS or that you have Quick Time if you are using a Mac OS. If these programs are already installed, then you may want to ensure that they are set to be the default program for that particular video.
Download the video, then right click the video and click the option that says "Properties". When the box appears, click open with and select either Quick Time or Windows Media Player. To avoid doing this for every video, follow the instructions below:

My computer will say ''not responding''.

It can happen when the computer is busy executing other programs or the CPU usage is more due to multiple application running at the same time. The best way to resolve this issue is Upgrade the memory on your system. You can also try to disable the startup applications from system configuration.

Press the Windows key and letter "R" on your keyboard

It will open the run windows

Type "msconfig"

Click ok

In the system configuration window select the Starup tab

Click on disable all

Click apply

Click OK or Close

Restart the computer

dentifying the fingerprint readerA fingerprint reader provides extra security for the PC. The VeriSoft Access Manager by Bioscrypt uses the fingerprint reader to identify the user, and controls access to Windows or other secure systems. Instead of typing a User ID and password, you can move your finger across a sensor to logon or start commonly used applications. Verisoft Access Manager can manage all of your different secure accounts and the required user names and passwords by recognizing your fingerprint.On HP notebook PCs, the fingerprint reader is a small metallic sensor located near the keyboard or display. By swiping your finger perpendicular to the metallic sensor you can logon to the PC, a network, or open a program.

Before you can use the fingerprint reader, you must set up the fingerprint reader by registering your fingerprint with the Access Manager. Set up the fingerprint reader To set up the fingerprint reader to recognize a user, the user must have a logon account on the PC and the account must have a password. Multiple users can be registered for the fingerprint reader if each has their own user account.

In Windows, double-click the VeriSoft Access Manager icon in the notification area of the taskbar to open the My Identity window. Alternately, click Start > All programs > Verisoft > My Identity .
Click Log On to open the VeriSoft Logon Wizard. Click Next to begin.
Enter the User's Windows password in the Password field on the Introduce Yourself page, and click Next . If you have successfully logged on to Windows, click Finish to close the wizard.
Click Register Fingerprints on the My Identity window, to open the VeriSoft Logon Wizard. Click Next to begin.
Select a finger shown on the hand graphic, and then slowly swipe your finger across the sensor. One of the squares below the hand graphic will change color when the scan is accepted. A message displays if the scan is not accepted.
Swipe the same finger across the sensor again until all four squares change color, then clickNext to register the finger print. If you need to start over during the fingerprint registration process, right-click the highlighted finger on the screen and then click Start Over .
If prompted to register a second fingerprint, click a different finger on the hand graphic, and then repeat steps 5 and 6.
After using the Registration Wizard to registered at least 2 fingers, click Finish .
To set up the fingerprint reader for a different Windows user, log on to Windows as that user and then repeat steps 1 through 8.

hello, you can make a right-clic on you're file and choose "informations".
you will have a choice "open with" :
two ways:
1 you want to read the file once with another program, choose it in the list.
2 you want to assign the program to this type of file, choose "other" and then point the program in the applications directory.
